For 8A only:

Read the NYTimes piece, “The Closing of the American Book”.  Underline 3 or more important sections.  Circle, look up and define unfamiliar vocabulary in writing.  Finally, share the article with an adult this evening and discuss it.  Please come prepared to share your discussion!

For BOTH 8A and 8B:

1. Come with at least 2 more things you want to know about the Civil War written down.
2. Read Ch. 5 TBAS.  Select 2 specific examples of resistance to slavery. Record their page number and write a paragraph about each (total=2 paragraphs), commenting on their significance, why you selected them, and what you think the slaves’ goals were in each instance.
