Dear LREI Community,
Late yesterday we were made aware through alerts from the NYPD that some group or groups of white supremacists are using social media to call for a so-called “Day of Hate,” tomorrow, Saturday, a day of antisemitic demonstrations and harassment. You may have seen these same reports via your news outlets by now. It is important to note that while there are reports of calls for a “Day of Hate,” the NYPD has been clear that there are no known plans of action or attacks, at this time.
At first, we hesitated to share this information so as not to add to the spread of this hateful message, avoiding giving it more energy than it already has. That said, we share this information for two reasons. One, it seems prudent to do so, and in turn, prudent for those of you who have older children to remind them of all of the strategies you have shared with them to be safe on the streets of our great city.
The second reason that I write to you is to address the hatred – the outspoken, unabashed antisemitism. We know that just as we have conversations of bigotry and hatred in school, you have these at home, and the threat of an organized “Day of Hate,” even if it remains a threat, seems like an opportunity for all to do so. Thank you for partnering with us in this effort. If you need support, please review the resources below.
Please be in touch to ask questions or to share your experiences.
Peace,
