News from the High School

October 26, 2022

Dear LREI Community,

When Margaret and Allison agreed to become co-principals of the high school it was an opportunity for them to learn, grow, and excel and for the institution to do the same.  They promised to serve for three years. We are beyond grateful that they will have served for five at the end of this school year, including the “pandemic years.”  In conversations over the past few months they shared that they are both ready for new challenges and, with gratitude, I support them in this.

I have asked Allison to become LREI’s Assistant Director of School, Teaching and Learning. Allison will have a significant portfolio of responsibilities through which she will support all three divisions, the departments, and our amazing teachers as we work to challenge students through our authentically rigorous progressive program. This role is tailor-made for her considerable talents and deep knowledge of progressive education. In addition, Allison will act as the school’s director on those occasions when I am off campus.

In the coming year, Margaret will bring her organizational expertise to a role that we have discussed adding for quite a while. She will create the role of Institutional Registrar, helping us to create systems that allow LREI to do an ever better job of keeping track of all of the school’s constituencies. I can think of no one better suited to bringing some order to all of this data.

When we first discussed the idea of co-principals we knew that this partnership would be successful, though we could not have imagined just how forcefully their term as co-principals would impact life at LREI. Margaret and Allison have brought a deep sense of caring, high expectations, and a true feeling of excitement and growth to each day for each student and each teacher. Our co-principals have guided growth in the program, have participated in the admission of so many wonderful students and, of course, have created a terrific team of colleagues. And while we could not have known it then, there was no better team than our co-principals to have guided the high school through the pandemic years. We are so very grateful for all they have brought to LREI and the good news is that, in new roles, they will both continue to be a part of the LREI community.

We will begin the search for our next high school principal immediately. I will keep you up to date on our progress throughout the process and, as we have in the past, we will create opportunities for you to meet the candidates. I expect that we will hire our new high school leader no later than mid-February. Again, I will be in touch with updates and, please, do not hesitate to contact me with questions.

We will surely create opportunities to thank Allison and Margaret for all they have done for the high school. I know that we all look forward to the growth and learning they will bring to their new roles and that the new high school principal will bring to the LREI community.

More soon,
