May 12, 2022
Congratulations to the members of the class of 2022. There are so very many things to celebrate about this class and we will speak about all of them at Commencement in just a few short weeks. So very close! Today, we focus on your college/university successes.
First of all, we are so proud of your options and choices. Really amazing. The full list of acceptances and of the schools where our seniors have matriculated for the fall is below. It will also be able to be found at lrei.org once we are sure that everyone has made final decisions.
A good place to start is by thanking the dynamic duo of Carey Socol and Kellen Howell, our co-directors of college guidance. Your steady and expert hands have guided the seniors and families through this complex promise, for many years. Not a surprise but we are grateful each time.
Why do our students stand out when they apply to colleges and what do they bring to campuses across the country (and around the world) each fall? Our students are academically, intellectually, and personally successful for a number of reasons.
-
They are committed, hard-working, good-natured and self-aware. They are talented, resilient, and prepared.
-
The high school’s academic program is authentically rigorous and supportive, with high expectations for content acquisition and skill building. High school classes require sustained participation and attention, the ability to work with one’s peers, and a desire to connect classroom work to the world.
-
There is support for one’s growth as a student and for the ability to reflect on our learning and our habits of mind. Can I work hard, study, plan for learning by leveraging my best skills? Can I organize my group and join the conversation? Can I seek support when needed? We hear from our graduates that they take advantage of study groups, office hours, and other campus resources from day one and that many of their new peers are reluctant to do so.
-
Students are actively involved in the community as participants and leaders, creators and supporters. The standards based grading and student-led conferences that students experience in middle school and the high school set up a college application process that is student-centered and ambitious. Students know themselves. They can reflect on how they learn. They know what they need and what they want.
-
We hear more and more that colleges and universities are eager to enroll students who arrive on campus able to advocate for themselves, who are both independent and hungry for community and who are experienced with discussions of identity and equity; who are eager to learn with others whose lived experiences will expand the world view of their peers.
In short, colleges want to enroll LREI grads, students who are already part-way down the path and who are eager to continue their journey. Colleges know where to find these students – 40 Charlton Street.
Where are our students headed? Check out this amazing list. A list that is diverse and interesting and reflective of the class of 2022.
Want to hear more about LREI’s amazing mission-driven college process? Join Carey Socol, co-director of college guidance and a panel of seniors on Friday, May 20 at 8:45 a.m. in the Sixth Avenue cafeteria.
Class of 2022, congratulations!
