Dear LREI Community –
Welcome back and I hope that your family had a restful break. We are eager to be back in school, eager for the warmer weather, and eager for all that the spring months bring to the school community. More from me about this shortly. Ava Dawson, our health director, will send reminders and updates regarding Covid-19 health protocols tomorrow.
Most importantly, I want to share an invitation to ALL LREI community members from the Co-chairs of the Parents Association’s Asian-American Families affinity group (AAF.)
From the AAF Co-chairs –
Dear LREI Family,
Please join the Asian-American Families committee for a night of unity on Friday, April 9th at 7PM. Our group would like to create a moment of acknowledgment, awareness, and reflection for the recent victims of hate crimes against Asian Americans. We want to break the silence surrounding all forms of racism, xenophobia, and white supremacy. Please join us in lessening each other’s pain.
One of the co-chairs of Azucar, Primavera Salva, will lead us in a moment of silence and MUCH needed breathwork/meditation during this discussion. The goal is to tap into your own power towards creating change. This will be a supportive safe space to share our experiences. Feel free to bring a candle.
When: 7:00PM on Friday, April 9.
Who: Please JOIN US. This is open to all. This will be a SAFE place for those of us showing up
What to bring: Candle to remember those AAF victims who have passed.
With Love,
Your AAF chairs,
Josephine Shin
Charlynne Kovach
Shailee Udani

In addition to joining Friday’s gathering, I encourage all to consider the following three responses to the attacks on the APISA+ community, among others in which you may have engaged.
1) We must speak with our children about what is going on. This is a moment, yet again, for families to have challenging and essential conversations.
2) Contact your elected representatives and demand a strong local and national response to these hate crimes Don’t know who your reps are? Check out this site.
3) I encourage us all to take a more active step and to participate in Bystander Intervention Training.
Be aware and informed, stay involved, care for your neighbors.
Be well all.
Peace and health –
