As you each experienced at some point, October is prime admissions season and tours and interviews are in full swing. (Know anyone looking for a school? Send them our way!) As part of our lower school process, we organize brief playgroups for the children and parallel conversations for their adults. During these parent conversations, we often are asked about parent involvement at LREI. I am always happy to answer this question as we are very proud of the depth and breadth of your involvement. Whether it is the parent body’s participation in conferences, educational events, or parent social gatherings or your role in organizing events and parent conversations we are so grateful for all that families do to support and enhance the LREI experience.
This Saturday, October 26, you and your children are invited to this year’s iteration of one of the great parent-run events of all time – the annual Halloween Fair. This eagerly awaited event is mainly geared to our lower school students but offers ways for all to be involved and to enjoy the day. For those of us with older children, it can be hard to remember how exciting it is for younger community members to gather, in costume, and to play, to create, and to be with classmates on this most child-like of observances. We are so grateful to the organizers and to the many, many volunteers who make this event possible.

One last Halloween note. If you end up with “too much” candy (you have to decide what that means), you can donate the extra through the PA Community Service Committee’s Halloween Candy Drive – “The Community Service Committee is offering an opportunity for you to once again donate your leftover Halloween candy this year to a good cause. The committee will be collecting unopened candy (of any kind) for Operation Gratitude a program that ships the donated candy to deployed service members around the world. There will be a collection bin at the Sixth Avenue Lobby from 11/1 – 11/6.”
