Thanksgiving 2018
Dear LREI Community,
Happy Thanksgiving! We had a warm (feeling, not temperature) and wonderful day at LREI. We began with an hour of buddy time, younger and older buddies together, engaged in a variety of activities. Hard to beat. From this, we moved to a combination of class/divisional events and assemblies. The assemblies share a sense of tradition, of comradery, and of bonhomie, though are quite different from each other due to the ages of the students. A very full day before going off to a much deserved and needed long weekend and the festive Thanksgiving holiday.
The day’s activities, integral to the LREI experience, supportive of our work in classrooms, of intellectual growth, help fill our tanks in a manner that allows for the hard work of learning to understand each other, of grappling with our different experiences, of disagreeing (without being disagreeable), of having the wherewithal to struggle through intellectual and academic challenges, in service to our responsibilities as community members and citizens. The students’ time today was much the same as the coming holiday is for many of the adults – a time to recharge, to feel buoyed by the breadth and depth of our relationships, to join together in common pursuit of knowledge, of justice, or maybe, on Thursday, just of a moist and delicious turkey.
Wishing you and yours all the best. Happy Thanksgiving and thank you for your commitment to LREI.
