The End-of-School / Beginning-of-Summer Checklist
All of the items in this checklist are appropriate for students in all 14 years of the LREI journey, Fours-12th grade.
-
I have or plan to clean my cubby/locker. Make sure to keep at least one piece of work you are especially proud of, and at least one piece of artwork (you can take pictures or scan work so that you don’t have too much to keep.) Return books to the library.
-
I checked the lost and found.
-
I returned anything that I borrowed from the school, from a teacher, from a classmate and I retrieved all that I loaned out.
-
I know what work I have to do over the summer (rising grades 5-12). I have asked for book recommendations from the librarians. I know that they are the perfect people to help me find another series about blood-sucking vampire wizard raccoons in space. (Check out the book lists at LREI.org)
-
I know how to get in touch with my classmates so we can see each other over the summer. Not going to be near each other? Let’s write letters, on paper, with pencils! (Fine, send an email or text.)
-
I have thanked at least one teacher. Have a lot to say? Write a note. Nothing is nicer than a handwritten thank you note.
-
If I have a favorite lunch, I thanked the cafeteria staff for making it taste so great.
-
I thanked anyone else who regularly impacts my life as a student at LREI – Eileen, Adria, Robert, Marcello, Ava, for example.
-
I thanked my classroom’s parent representatives and my PA committee’s chair(s). (For adults)
-
I (adults) will find a time before my child forgets everything to ask:
What is one assignment / project / event that you found to be meaningful this year?
What is something that you are proud of?
What is something that was really challenging?
What would you like to try next year?
What goals do you have for the next school year?
Is there something we can do this summer, maybe a museum or NYC landmark that we can visit to revisit some of what you discussed in school or to prepare for next year?
-
I made a note to send Phil and/or my teachers a postcard this summer. (Postcards and letters are great ways to practice writing. We love to hear from you and break up the long days, for those of us who are here working ALL summer.) I will wear my LREI gear while I am having a summer adventure, take a picture and send it in.
