Hello, LREI. I hope that this note finds you well and enjoying the spring weather. Such a pleasure. (With apologies to those of you suffering from seasonal allergies.)
As you know, this time of the year presents no end of opportunities to be involved in your child’s work in school and to see the fruits of their labors. A quick note about one particular group of these moments. On Tuesday of this week, I joined a steady stream of students and family members at our first annual High School Visual Arts Showcase. The Charlton Street building was filled with countless objects of art—sculpture, paintings, drawing, mobiles, embroidery, and more—all created by our talented 9th-12th graders. In addition, there was a screening of a number of student films. What a treat! I certainly hope that this becomes a yearly event, joining our Lower School (mid-February) and Middle School (April 22-24) art shows. In addition to these events, yesterday morning the first graders had a music share that was so much fun and such a reflection of the hard work and joy that the students find in their arts classes each day. Your children’s time in their arts classes and activities provide those confident artists with challenge and those who are less so with opportunities for success. Creative outlet, an understanding of cultures, a look into the past and a chance to imagine the future—the arts are essential to our progressive mission.
In the upcoming weeks you can see LREI’s students’ work in the arts during our Middle School Performing Arts Festival (Wed. 4/22), the middle school musical on May 8 and 9, the Literary Magazine Coffee House on Friday, May 15, at the Spring Concert for those with children in the choruses and bands on Monday, May 18. You can join the second annual High School Dance Concert on the afternoon of Thursday, June 4. You can hear a professional ensemble play fifth grade compositions on Thursday, May 28. All of this in addition to class and grade-level shares, assemblies and performances. The end of the school year is a showcase for LREI’s arts programs and for all that our students have learned and accomplished during the school year’s artistic endeavors. Enjoy!
