• Incidents may occur in and out of the classroom and can be reported by any teacher. It is important to remember that you are a teacher to all students in the Middle School independent of whether or not a given student appears on your class list.
  • The teacher who observes the incident should complete a “Behavioral Incident Notification” on LREI Connect and send it to the student’s parents and advisor.
  • Margaret speaks with the student (the advisor may attend if his/her schedule allows) after the second incident and may choose to arrange a meeting/telephone conference with student’s parents.
  • This meeting also has some direct natural consequence (loss of recess, staying after school, conduct log, reflective essay, service to the community, etc.)
  • If there is another (third) incident, Nathan or Margaret arranges a second meeting with the student and the student’s parents (the advisor may attend if his/her schedule allows) and assigns an appropriate consequence.
  • If there is an additional (fourth) incident, Nathan schedules a family conference, which includes the student’s advisor any relevant teachers. At this point, the discussion is primarily about the student’s inability to follow norms. This meeting may result in suspension, recommendation for evaluation/counseling, and/or the development of a personalized plan or contract.
