Hi, yes we’re back. Did you miss us? Because we missed you.
Hamburger America – 51 MacDougal St, New York, NY 10012
Smash burgers are on the rise to fame. SO, we have recently been craving a smash burger and some crispy fries. Secret and I recently payed Hamburger America a visit. Just a 5 minute walk from LREI on the corner of West Houston and 6th Ave (there is also an entrance on Macdougal and West Houston). We ordered a traditional smash burger “all the way” style, which means mustard, onions, and pickles will be included on your burger. We recommend getting a “half and half” which is half lemonade and half iced tea. With all the salty flavors, a drink is a must-need to quench your thirst. Once you order your drink will be immediately handed to you along with a number. Hamburger America is first come first serve, so depending on what time of day you visit you may have to wait 10-15 minutes. This restaurant captures an old diner feel with a yellow, brown, and white color scheme – creating a cozy atmosphere. Yellow-seated booths and stools line the walls. This is a great spot to swing by with your friends regardless of your lunch period as it is not too filling but still satisfies your hunger.
M&O Deli – Corner of Prince and Thompson Street
Iz and I have recently been OBSESSED with a good ham and cheese sandwich. Toasted roll, perfectly sliced ham and provolone, and oozing mayonnaise; absolutely heaven. Where to find this masterpiece? M&O deli! Although it may seem like a nothing special and standard deli, when you make your way to the back you’ll see where the magic happens. Take a look at the selection of rolls, choose your perfect pick, and pass it to one of the talented chefs who will receive your order. Embarrassingly decline as they offer to add lettuce and tomato – trust us they should be left out. Watch in awe as your beautiful sandwich is crafted and handed to you in just 5 short minutes. Grab your warm sandwich and go to check out, and if you’d like grab some gum or a drink as well! M&O Deli does not have seating, so Iz and I love to bring our ham and cheese delicacies to Blank Street, enjoying them with a wonderful matcha or chai. If the sound of a ham and cheese sandwich from M&O Deli tickles your fancy, make your way down to the corner of Prince Street and Thompson Street, just about 3 minutes from LREI!
Thank you for reading our second edition of Food and The City. We are very interested in spotlighting some LREI students on their favorite spots in the neighborhood. Please email @26izo@lrei.org or @26secrets@lrei.org if you want to be featured. More reviews to come!
