Thursday, February 8th at 3:00 pm EST is the 2018 NBA Trade Deadline. After last years subpar trade deals, this year the average NBA fan was expecting a bit more. There was a lot of uncertainty approaching this year’s deadline, especially surrounding the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavaliers have been playing horrible basketball recently, going 5-5 in their last 10 games. The night before the trade deadline, Cleveland went into overtime in a game against the young and athletic Timberwolves. With about 4 seconds left on the clock, Andrew Wiggins drove into the lane against Cedi Osman. Wiggins put up the shot with about 3 seconds left, but Lebron traveled 11 feet in about a second to block his shot. JR Smith got the rebound and called a timeout with about 1 second left. With one second left, Lebron got the ball and hit a fading jump shot from the top of the key to seal the win at the buzzer, 140-138. Lebron ran to his bench and chest bumped his teammates (at the time.) Well, about 12 hours after this glorious win most of his teammates were gone, including his best friend Dwyane Wade. The first trade was around 11 in the morning The Cavaliers traded Isaiah Thomas, the failed savior for Kyrie Irving leaving, as well as Channing Frye, to the Lakers for the athletic stretch forward Larry Nance and versatile guard Jordan Clarkson. But that wasn’t the only trade they made. They created a three-team trade with the Jazz and Sacramento. They traded for George Hill and Rodney Hood to go to the Cavaliers; Derrick Rose and Jae Crowder to the Jazz; Joe Johnson, Iman Shumpert, and 2020 second-round pick to Sacramento. This trade was essentially created so Cleveland could have a better and more complete team. Although they did save their future and get young, smart and athletic players, this didn’t make them better than the Warriors or the Rockets. The Cavaliers need to figure their team out quickly or it’s going to be too late. Lebron needs to blend with these teammates or he might leave after the season to play with a younger flashier team. For Dwyane Wade, he’s coming home to Miami where he started his 15 year career. Videos on Gabby Union and Miami Heat’s page showed Wade dancing on the tarmac, seemingly happy to get out of the disaster that is Cleveland.
