By Sarah Katz

Peter Martin is a familiar face in the LREI community yet he is still an enigma to many of us. Today I sat down with Peter Martin to find out more about him and his work. Hope you enjoy!

Q: What is your official job?

A: I am the Director of Communications and work in the advancement office-development. I lead our internal and our external communications. As director of communications, there are many tasks that pertain to all aspects of the school. In regards to the social media component, LREI has three platforms that we use daily, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, all of which contribute to sharing or conveying what occurs at LREI on a daily basis. I oversee news on our official website lrei.org, and in fact, we are currently undergoing a major redesign. The finished product will be something the entire community can be proud of. All of these communications components help shape the perception of the school to parents, alumni and prospective families as well as the students, faculty and the staff. In the increasingly tech dependant world that we live in, communicating the school’s identity is very important. LREI has such an illustrious history and so much to be proud of, and it is my responsibility to insure our mission is effectively conveyed.

Q: What is your favorite part about working at LREI?

A: The students. From the Fours to 12th grade, I’m constantly inspired by the remarkably talented, creative, and intelligent members of our community.

Q: How did you get this job?

A: Prior to LREI I was director of communications for the Saddle River Day School which was a great experience. I have a diverse communications driven professional background, having also worked at CNN. In college, I was a communications and media major at Fordham University at Lincoln Center.

Q: What do you do for fun outside of LREI?

A: On the weekend you can likely find me enjoying time in Central Park, my favorite spot in the city. I am also very competitive. I love sports. One of my passions is coaching as I enjoyed coaching this Winter for the Boys Varsity Basketball team.

Q: What is your favorite part of coaching?

A: Being a part of a group that actually became a team in the true meaning of the word. We evolved together and became more than just individuals.

Q: How do you decide what to post on the Instagram?

A: We post several updates daily on all platforms. It is important to have a balance of all three divisions in order to actually convey all the amazing things that we constantly have going on.
