This is to confirm that you are doing an honors project this trimester. Please note the following requirements below. Additional details can be found under the “About Honors Projects” tab on the website:
During the first three weeks of the project (4/19-5/9), you should:
- Develop a clear work plan with your mentor. Determine when/where you will meet and are prepared for each meeting.
- Create some method for documenting notes and action items from your weekly meeting with your project mentor.
- Spent 1-2 hours each week working on your project.
- Document your process (e.g., notes, images, video). The honors project is as much about the process as it is about your final product.
- Periodically, stop to reflect on and capture how things are going.
- ACTION ITEM: By 5/7, post a summary of your work to date (including any relevant work product, process and reflection) in your project page on the website.

You’ll need to log into the page/website to do this. See info here.
As you enter weeks 4-6 (5/10-5/30):
-
At this point, your work routines should be well-established.
-
Meetings with your mentor should be shifting to what you are learning about your project topic and about yourself as a learner.
-
As you move deeper into the project, you are developing some perspective on the work that has been done and the work that remains to be done.
-
You are beginning to think about what needs to be done to tie your work, research, and experience together in its final form. You continue to reflect on the project.
- ACTION ITEM: You’ll post a second update to the project on the website by 5/28.
Weeks 7-9 (5/31-6/9)
- At this point, the bulk of your inquiry work should be completed and you are now shifting your focus to think about how best to tell the story of your work.
- In most cases, your approved project identified a final product (e.g., research paper, creative writing, web site, photos, videos, a performance, etc.). Now is the time to make this your primary focus.
- As your final “product” takes shape, you also need to think about how you will share this work/learning in poster form or some other display/exhibit/performance and as a final update to your blog post. Information about how to create the poster can be found here.
- Your meetings with your project mentor are focused on identifying a clear plan for when and how this work will be done.
- Continue to document your work and reflect on how things are going in the “Weeks 7-9” section of your blog page.
- Update your Honors Project Pathway form.
Keep in mind that in addition to the project‘s stated final product, you will also need to document this work as a final update on the website and produce a community-facing poster or some other display or performance that highlights your work. Information about how to create the poster can be found here. All project materials are to be posted to the blog by Monday, 6/7.
Don’t hesitate to be in touch if you have any questions.
