Project by: Emma Diamond (11th Grade), Leanne Daley (11th Grade)
Project Advisor: Ann Carroll
Student(s)’s Advisor(s): Shauna Finn, Kelly O’shea

Description of the Project:

In this project, we will research unrecognized women who have been significant in politics around the world. We will share our knowledge through bulletin boards around the school and announcements at morning meetings. We want to take this on because we are passionate about raising the voices of women who have been forgotten throughout history. We want to educate ourselves about these women and their accomplishments

Women!

Women! (1)

Final Reflection on Learning:

Emma: This project helped me learn about women whose incredible accomplishments are often overlooked. Before this project, I didn’t even know the names of most of these women; now, I have a lot of information about who they were, what their personal life was like, and what their professional life was like. This project also helped me improve my research skills. I had to find reliable sources in order to ensure I was adding good information to my notes.

Leanne: Through this project, I was shocked about the number of women that have played such a large and key role in making our lives today possible, and most of them I had never even heard their name and had to dig for information.  Because we had planned out the format we had to really focus on making sure we were just using the key information about them, and not just filling in random details.

Update on Progress from Weeks 1-3 (include any photos or video if relevant):

During the first three weeks of our project, we narrowed our focus to women throughout history in New York. We picked four professions that we wanted to cover over the course of our project: activists, politicians, artists, and front-line workers. We did research about four female politicians (Shirley Chisholm, Frances Perkins, Bessie A. Buchanan, and Constance Baker Motley). We decided that at the end of the trimester, we want to have all our bulletin boards prepared for us to hang them in the fall.

Update on Progress from Weeks 4-6 (include any photos or video if relevant):

During the second three weeks of our project, we continued to do research on women from all four categories. We also decided on a way to present our research: Canva. It will have a paragraph about their personal life highlights, bullet points about their professional life highlights, a quote they said, and a photograph of them. We will print all of this out and hang it on a bulletin board in the fall. We also met with Ann weekly to go over our research and ideas about how we want to present the information.

Update on Progress from Weeks 7-9 (include any photos or video if relevant):

During the third three weeks of our project, we finished the research about all the women we decided on in the beginning of our project. We have research on 16 women in total. We then created our Canva template and added all our research to our template. We continued to meet with Ann every week to discuss our progress and talk about the women we learned about. We also confirmed our plan to print and hang our Canva pages on a bulletin board in the fall.
