Description of the Project & Final Product:

Final Reflection on Learning:

Although I was not able to do the actual teaching, I learned the importance of building a strong curriculum and how to format a class based on the ages of kids and how they are able to learn. I also learned how important scheduling is and how having a clear plan for how everything will lay out makes things easier to get done. I am looking forward to teaching the lower school kids my curriculum since it will be one of my first times teaching dance to a larger group of kids.

Update on Progress from Weeks 1-3 (include any photos or video if relevant):

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been working on a curriculum for how to teach dance to younger students. Since a dance class requires structure, there are multiple steps to take to learn specific movements in order to achieve more difficult steps. Additionally, I’ve partnered with the lower/middle school dance teacher, Deborah Damast, to gather a group of teachers to present my curriculum to before teaching the students.

Update on Progress from Weeks 4-6 (include any photos or video if relevant):

To solidify my curriculum, I met up with Deborah Damast via zoom and presented my ideas to her. She suggested that I meet with her ABT students/faculty just to make sure all the spellings of the vocabulary are correct, and so that they can give additional pointers to me. The next step is to meet with Faith, the lower school principal, to tell her my ideas and to make a plan with when and how I can teach the lower/middle schoolers in the fall.

Update on Progress from Weeks 7-9 (include any photos or video if relevant):

On the last week of school, I met up with Alisa, the lower school assistant principal to propose my ideas to her. We discussed the logistics such as when I would meet, what grades, and what exactly I would be teaching to the kids. In the next few weeks we will have a more solidified plan to take it into action for the fall.
