Description of the Project:

For my project, I wanted to focus on the bio/organic chemistry of different medicine and how it affects the brain and body. I decided to focus on Nicotine, Caffeine, and Aspirin and to expand my knowledge and to learn the fundamentals of what I am going to be learning in college.

In our first meeting, I was given an online textbook about organic chem and I began to learn the fundamentals of molecules and formulas. As shown below, I learned the different bondments, how to draw them, and how each of the atoms must connect to one another. We also decided on three substances that we are going to focus on during the trimester which is: Caffeine, Aspirin, and Nicotine. I then began to draw them and learn the functional groups and to draw them.

During this meeting, I followed a lab and extracted caffeine from Lipton tea.
