We wanted to continue our study of psychology and neuroscience that we started in our honors project last year. We wanted to study why individuals often perform below their abilities when they are under pressure. We read the book Choke by Sian Beilock to learn more about the topic. Then, we conducted interviews with individuals in our school about their own experiences under pressure and provided tips they can use moving forward.

PROJECT PROPOSAL:
Please write a description of the project you are proposing. Why do you want to take this on, and what do you hope to learn?
We want to continue our study of psychology and neuroscience that we started in our honors project this year. We want to study why individuals often perform below their abilities when they are under pressure. We want to read the book “Choke” by Sian Beilock to learn more about the topic. Then, we will conduct interviews with individuals in our school about their own experiences under pressure and provide tips they can use moving forward.
Critical thinking, creativity, citizenship and courage are essential LREI learning values. Explain how you’ll draw on at least one of these values to complete your proposed project?
We are drawing on citizenship during our project. We want to help our school community by sharing our research with them. We can provide tips on how people can perform better under pressure.
What is your proposed outcome? How will you be able to demonstrate successful completion of this Project? How do you plan to share your learnings with the larger LREI community (e.g., exhibit of work, poster of learnings, performance, etc.)?
We would like to make a poster as our final product. On the poster we will share the findings from our research, quotes from our interview, and tips for performing under pressure.
Please provide a general outline that indicates your work plan for the trimester? What are some of the key project benchmarks (i.e., goals that will help to ensure that you finish the project)?
We want to finish our book and other research by the beginning of November. Then we want to complete our interviews by the beginning of December. This would give us the rest of the first trimester to complete our poster.
When do you plan on meeting?
Monday Lunch
This looks good!
Approved, looking forward to working with the two of you again!
How timely and important. Perhaps investigating “stereotype threat” and the relationship this experience has with stress and performance may be useful in your methods of observation.
