Over the summer, I took an Adolescent Psychology course at Cornell where I explored the many aspects of what adolescence is and how it affects an individual socially, mentally, emotionally, and psychologically. An area that I was particularly attracted to was psychosocial problems in adolescence, an umbrella term for a wide range of psychological disturbances and issues that can arise during adolescence. For this project, I wanted to deepen my understanding of psychosocial problems that take place during adolescence. I set out to learn more about the inner workings of the adolescent mind and its subsequent behaviors and how they are prevalent during this period of one’s life.

PROJECT PROPOSAL

Please write a description of the project you are proposing. Why do you want to take this on, and what do you hope to learn?

Over the summer, I took an Adolescent Psychology course at Cornell where I explored the many aspects of what adolescence is and how it affects an individual socially, mentally, emotionally, and psychologically. An area that I was particularly attracted to was psychosocial problems in adolescence, an umbrella term for a wide range of psychological disturbances and issues that can arise during adolescence.
For this project, I would like to deepen my understanding of psychosocial problems that take place during adolescence. I hope to learn more about the inner workings of the adolescent mind and its subsequent behaviors and how they are prevalent during such a shaky time in ones life. I would carry out this project by doing more in depth research of the topic while taking notes on my findings. If possible, I would contact my Cornell professor and see if they could assist me in any way regarding papers to read or people to talk to.

Critical thinking, creativity, citizenship and courage are essential LREI learning values. Explain how you’ll draw on at least one of these values to complete your proposed project?

Critical thinking will be a large part of this project, along with creativity. Due to the amount of notes that I will be taking and the knowledge that I will be absorbing, both core learning values will be put into play.

What is your proposed outcome? How will you be able to demonstrate successful completion of this Project? How do you plan to share your learnings with the larger LREI community (e.g., exhibit of work, poster of learnings, performance, etc.)?

My proposed outcome will most likely be a poster of my research that will be hung up for the school to see. The poster will have a similar layout to the one that I created last year, different boxes filled with text about a certain subject aided with drawings.

Please provide a general outline that indicates your work plan for the trimester? What are some of the key project benchmarks (i.e., goals that will help to ensure that you finish the project)?

I will first begin with going back to my Cornell textbook and rereading the chapter on psychosocial issues to refresh my memory on the topic. I will then begin research through online papers or other textbooks (Daniel and I will sort this out during our first meeting). Then will begin the process of taking copious notes on the given text. My final project will consist of the poster showing my findings.

When do you plan on meeting?
We plan on meeting after school on Mondays
