The past 4 years I have been taking photos of everyone in my grade every year. Over the last trimester, I have continued to digitize my film photos from 9th and 10th grade. I have also completed the portraits of my grade for senior year.

This project has definitely been more of a challenge than expected. I knew it was ambitious, but I did not anticipate how time consuming it would be. I am still working on completing my final project which will be a book, that will also be able to be viewed digitally, so I will add the link to this blog when that is possible.

PROJECT PROPOSAL:

Please write a description of the project you are proposing. Why do you want to take this on, and what do you hope to learn?

For my honors project, I would like to take a portrait of everyone in my grade every year, I have already completed freshman year as well as sophomore year and junior year. I would take the pictures on a film camera in black and white and develop the film here in the school. I will be scanning the negatives and eventually printing them digitally in the form of a book. I want to play around with the flash and take some photos in a place where it is darker so the person stands out and the background is almost black. Also, they wouldn’t need to be super formal pictures of everyone. I want pictures of people in positions that are more candid, that show a bit more their personalities. They can be doing whatever position they want as long as it is clear who they are and it is still of their face. After every full set of photos I wish to hang them up in the school and they would gradually grow and show how we all changed throughout the years of high school.

Critical thinking, creativity, citizenship and courage are essential LREI learning values. Explain how you’ll draw on at least one of these values to complete your proposed project?

This project embodies creativity, because of the artistic nature of the project. I think it also embodies courage as this project has been more work than anticipated.

What is your proposed outcome? How will you be able to demonstrate successful completion of this Project? How do you plan to share your learnings with the larger LREI community (e.g., exhibit of work, poster of learnings, performance, etc.)?

This final year I want to focus on digitizing the rest of my negatives, taking this year’s photos, and eventually completing the book. This honors project has been in the making for the past 3 years and I am excited to finish it off.

Please provide a general outline that indicates your work plan for the trimester? What are some of the key project benchmarks (i.e., goals that will help to ensure that you finish the project)?

The first key piece of this project is finishing scanning the photos from the last 3 years. After that, I will finish editing them. Lastly, I will make the book.

When do you plan on meeting?
