CONTINUATION PROPOSAL

Please write a description of the project you are proposing. Why do you want to take this on, and what do you hope to learn?

This in-progress research paper originated from my curiosity about my mother’s experience as a single mother. So far I have thirteen pages of in-depth information on many advantages and disadvantages of the two reproduction types (asexual and sexual).

What is your proposed outcome? How will you be able to demonstrate successful completion of this Project?

My goal for this honors project is to explain why humans reproduce sexually. The question to be answered is (put simply): Asexual reproduction results in upwards of twice as much reproductive success and fitness for the same resources as sexual reproduction, so how did sexual reproduction gain enough advantage to be selected and thus used by humans (and animals)?

When do you plan on meeting?
Friday during second lunch

What am I currently working on? (11/28/17)

I am currently working on the evolution of life from a reproductive standpoint.  So far I have just under ten pages of in-depth information on many advantages and disadvantages of the two reproduction types (asexual and sexual) including a few diagrams to aid the understanding of my topic through visuals.

ORIGINAL PROPOSAL

Please write a description of the project you are proposing. Why do you want to take this on, and what do you hope to learn?

My goal for this honors project is to go beyond human and animal evolution and answer the question of how sex originated. Asexual reproduction results in upwards of twice as much reproductive success and fitness for the same resources as sexual reproduction, so how did sexual reproduction gain enough advantage to be selected and thus used by humans and animals? Those are the questions I expect to be able to answer by the end of the second trimester.

What is your proposed outcome? How will you be able to demonstrate successful completion of this Project?

My goal is to complete my already-begun research paper which will thoroughly and comprehensively explain why humans and animals reproduce sexually.
