It makes it look more natural. It also kind looks like and obstacle for enemies.
- What natural features might be desirable for designing a city?
Trees, water, animals, grass, clay, hills.
- What natural features might be less desirable for building a city?
Deadly animals, cliffs.
- What can the use of different types of building materials tell you about the purpose and function of different parts of the city?
Stone Is big and heavy and strong. So they probably used it for protection. Wood was used for furniture most likely.
- What are the various functional parts of the city (i.e., what does a city need to be a city?)?
Stone and wood and natural features: trees, water.
- How does the design of the city reflect the different levels of status of its inhabitants?
The bigger your city is the more expensive. Also if you used something like glass then that shows you were very wealthy.
- How might the design of a city tell you something about the values and beliefs of the people who live in the city?
The church was most likely the biggest priority of the village. When you look at the first picture to the left you can see the church is almost as big as the castle.
