Stonemasons

  • Stone masons were the most highly paid craftsmen and the most respected.
  • The Sinking Square measured the depth and helped in get into position.
  • Every stone in a stone structure would of taken a day to cut and finish. Also they were heavy so they had to be made at the quarry.
  • The square was so important, it was for making sure corners are straight.
  • To make a pattern they used leather so the masons could copy.
