10th Grade Special Project —— 我的暑假 My Summer Break

Assignment:  Plan a trip to another city for your upcoming summer break. Give a general introduction about the weather and seasons of the city you are going to, the activities you will engage in while there. The weather you expect and the clothing you will need. You will present your project in PowerPoint or Video.

Reference Material: Textbook Lesson 5, 6, 7, 8 & 9.

Vocabulary Bank:

5/19     Bring your first draft to class

In-class: Refine your assignment in consultation with the teacher.  Collect any materials or information you might need for the assignment.  e.g. pictures, books, etc.

Homework:  Edit into final version, include pictures into your PowerPoint.

5/20      Continue working on the final version as a video or PowerPoint presentation. Show the teacher a preview of the presentation of the final version of each individual project.

Homework:  Practice oral presentation.

5/21       Present video or PowerPoint to the entire class.

Language Comparison Research

1. What differences can you think of that distinguish English from Chinese?

2. Compare the Roman alphabet (26 letters) and Chinese radicals (56 basic).

3. Compare phonetic system used in English to the pictographic system used in Chinese writing. Can English words function separate from how they sound? Can Chinese words?

4. Compare the writing implements. How does this affect the language and how it is used? Choose an aspect of the Chinese language or writing system that you want to research. This can be whatever aspect of the language you find most interesting. For example, calligraphy, pictograms, early development, radicals, how to use a dictionary, signs, signature seals, idioms, etc. Choose a narrowly defined topic to research.
