12/17

Over break, your homework is to think about a tradition you share with your family around this time of year. I want you to think about your holiday celebrations and what makes them unique to both your family and your culture. Tell me what holiday you celebrate and what it means to you, why it’s special and important and fun. In doing so, I want you to think about these possibilities for sharing:

* special foods you eat
* traditions you and your family share
* songs you sing
* games you play
* services you attend
* community service activities you do together every year
* films you watch, books you read
* people you see

Remember that when you write, you want to create an image in your reader’s mind. To do that, you need to include the 5 senses in your writing:

* smell
* sight
* touch
* hearing
* taste

You also do this by using colorful language – adjective and adverbs!

One of the most important parts of traditions is the people you celebrate with. Because it involves others, the following are requirements:

* Please interview one of your grownups and ask them about your tradition – why do you celebrate the way you do? Who began the traditions you follow?
* After this interview, write a paragraph about your traditions.
* Make sure your piece is spell checked, typed and neat.
* Include a photo, drawing or recipe in your piece.
