3. 4th quarter comment:
For the 4th quarter, you will write your own comment for each subject. Some guidelines:
* 10 sentences is a reasonable length for a comment
* The comment should address an area of strength and an area of challenge where progress was made.
* It’s okay if a comment does not directly address goals identified in the third quarter
* Spelling and grammar do matter
Example:
I think that I have made a lot of progress this year as a writer and as a learner in core. One area of strength for me this year has been my discussion skills. I was always prepared and I believe that I had interesting ideas to share about our readings. I enjoyed all of our class discussions and was an active participant in them. However, one thing that I noticed at the end of the year was that I was a much better listener; I did not always feel the need to comment and I enjoyed listening to and thinking about what my classmates had to say. I think that this helped me to sharpen my own thinking. In terms of my writing, I did not put much effort into my revisions at the beginning of the year and I was content to hand in a rough draft as a final draft. As I worked on pieces throughout the year, I slowly began to realize that the revision process helped me to more clearly express my ideas; this led to a tightening of my arguments. As a result of my hard work this year, I feel prepared and ready for high school English and social studies.
