Cooper
- 12-15 hours of work a day.
- The word Cooper comes from the same root as the word cup.
- Cooper means container maker.
- Coopers make containers made from pieces called spades.
- Barrels are rounded.
- Spades are held together by rings that can be made out of wood or metal.
- Coopers make barrels, mug’s, butter churns, and buckets.
Joiner
- “There are five types of joints, and thousands of variations.” -The Joiner
- Some common joints are Dovetail, Halfblind Dovetail, Fully Blind Dovetail, and Lap Joint.
Wheelwright
- Most wheels made were cart and wagon wheels.
- It was about an hour of work for every inch of a wheel.
- Wheels were mostly used for work like farming.
Cabinetmaker
- It would take about 5 hours to make a chair.
- To make designs in the legs of the table, they would use a blade thin as a string.
