The diversity and differences of the games all said something about the cultures that played them. Even though all of the cultures in early America played different games, they are the basis of the games that we play today. English games helped form bowling, cards, board games and more. Native American games helped form many of sports and activities we have today, such as lacrosse. The games that different cultures played also helped with their survival. Upper class English would play word games and other learning games that would help them learn how to read, write, etc. They would need to know these things to be able to succeed professionally. Native American games incorporated different skills like hunting and fishing because they needed to know how to hunt, fish and do other things for their survival. Slaves would sing and try to lighten the overwhelming burden of enslavement while working in the fields. Song were sung for amusement and for keeping pace. All of these cultures’ games and recreation helped create the America we have now. Where would we be without games?
