The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis

9780064471046_R1_slideshowThe book I am reading is called The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C. S. Lewis. The name of this series is called The Chronicles of Narnia. The main characters’ names are Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy. They are all brothers and sisters. Another important character’s name is Aslan. Aslan is a Lion. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe takes Place in England and the imaginary World, Narnia.

I think one of the most important scenes is near the end of the book when the four kids and Aslan go to the witch’s castle. Aslan unfreezes the stone statues that the witch had made, with his breath. (The witch froze creatures by pointing her wand at them, then they turned to stone.) I made a diorama of this scene. Aslan is in the center of the scene breathing on the dwarves to unfreeze them. I made him in the center because he is the main and most important character in this scene.

This scene is important because there are a ton of statues that the witch froze and Aslan unfroze all of them. “Everywhere the statues were coming to life. The courtyard looked no longer like a museum; it looked more like a zoo. Creatures were running after Aslan and dancing round him till he was almost hidden in the crowd” Everyone searched the whole castle to find any more statues that were hidden. “Now for the inside of this house!” Said Aslan. “Look alive, everyone. Up stairs and down stairs! Leave no corner unsearched. You never know where some poor prisoner may be concealed.” Aslan didn’t want anyone to be left at the witch’s castle as a statue.

After he unfroze all the statues Aslan made an army of his own out of the creatures that he unfroze. The witch’s army and Aslan’s army then had a battle. In the end Aslan’s army won, the witch died and most of her army died too. Without Aslan unfreezing the creatures they wouldn’t have won the battle. That is why the scene is so important. I would give this book a five star rating.

The Harry Potter Series by J.K.Rowling

9780545162074_p0_v2_s1200x630This review is on the great series called Harry Potter by J.K Rowling.  This is a series of 7 books: The Sorcerer’s Stone, The Chamber of Secrets, The Prisoner of Azkaban, The Goblet of Fire, The Order of the Phoenix, The Half Blood Prince, and The Deathly Hallows. Each book tells the story of a year at Hogwarts and the summer vacation except for the last book which covers some of the future. These are probably the best seven books I have ever read. The main character is an eleven year old boy (in the first book) named Harry Potter and his best friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. The big problem in this series is that a dark wizard named Voldemort is trying to kill Harry.  This series takes place in England in 1991.  

It is very challenging to choose the most important events in such a big series, but I have chosen three. One huge event that changes Harry’s life is in The Prisoner of Azkaban, when Sirius Black escapes from Azkaban (the wizarding jail). Throughout the series Sirius becomes more important and a bigger part of Harry’s life, this is why his escape is important. Another big event is at the end of The Goblet of Fire. This is when Lord Voldemort comes back and tries to kill Harry. Harry just barely escapes, but that’s the least of his worries…now the darkest wizard is out to basically kill everyone but his closest followers and nobody will believe Harry that he is back. A third big event is the the Battle of Hogwarts in The Deathly Hallows. Many people close to Harry die in this battle which affects his life greatly for the worse.

Harry is very fair. I say this because in the fourth book ha could have cheated in a tournament but chose not to. Harry is also mentally strong. I say this because he is literally having a conversation with the most dangerous person ever and does not break down. A third thing I would describe harry as is brave. I would say he is brave because he was willing to go somewhere where there was a 99% chance he would die. A quote that explains harry is “I don’t go looking for trouble, trouble usually finds me”. I think this explains Harry because he’s always getting himself into a bad situation but he does not want to be in them.

I loved this series! One reason why I thought it was great was because it was I am an adventure fan and this is definitely adventure. I would totally recommend it, especially if you like Percy Jackson. I think any adventure fan would like it. On a scale of 1 to 5 I would give this series a 1,000!

Lunar Strike by H.I. Larry

Once upon a time on a hot summer day, there was a boy named Zac Power. He was a part of the GIB, which stood for Government imgresInvestigation Bureau. He wasn’t the only one in his family that was in the GIB. His mom, dad and his older brother Leon were all in the GIB. Zac had to keep his identity to himself. He couldn’t even tell his closest friends.Then one day his brother Leon told him that he had to go on a space shuttle to stop one of his enemies from wiping out all the electronics In the world.

Zac started his training. He had to become an astronaut in 3 hours which was going to be really hard because real astronauts take 3 years to learn it.

Two and a half hours later –

After most of Zac’s training was finished he had to feel what anti-gravity felt like.While he was floating in the air, his brother Leon gave him a box of cereal in case he got hungry, but when Leon gave him the box of cereal, the little mouse in Leon’s pocket climbed out and went inside the cereal box without anybody noticing.

10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 Blast off! The rocket took off, leaving a big pile of smoke that looked like a huge storm was coming. When the space shuttle was leaving Earth’s orbit, Zac was amazed at what he saw in space. He saw all kinds of things like different planets and a meteor shower coming towards him. “Wait, what?! A meteor shower? How am I supposed to get past that?” Zac exclaimed. At that moment, something caught the corner of his eye.

It was a space shuttle that he had to find to knock out the ray, so the electronics wouldn’t get fried. He came in slowly, so the guns would think that he was a space rock. When he got in the spacecraft, the computer that could stop the ray was right in front of him. He only had 10 minutes to stop it. When he was trying to hack the ray, a huge robot came out of nowhere and tried to stop Zac from hacking the ray. Then all of a sudden the robot let out a cry and Zac saw the mouse eating the robot’s wires. When the robot was dead, Zac finished the hack and the world was SAVED!!!

The book I read was called Lunar Strike by H.I. Larry. I would definitely recommend this book to other people. There’s also a lot of other books in this series, so if you don’t want to read this one, you can read the other ones. I would give this book four out of five, because some of the scenes in the book had a lot of action. I would give it a four instead of a five because the ending could have been more exciting.

Once Upon A Frog by Sarah Mlynowski

static1.squarespaceThe book I read is Once Upon a Frog by Sarah Mlynowski. This is the 8th book in the Whatever After series. The main characters are Abby and Jonah. There are many problems but the main problem in all the books is getting home on time. The book takes place in The Kingdom of Birdopolis. This book takes place in modern times.

One big event that happened was Abby, Jonah, and their dog prince got sucked into the Frog Price. Abby and Jonah get sucked into fairy tales by their magic mirror in there basement. I would say why they get sucked into fairy tales but that would spoil the book nor less the series itself. I find it interesting that Abby and Jonah fell for prince/frog Fredric’s stories and lies. I would say more but that would spoil the book. Something I found important was Jonah’s head itches. Jonah’s head itches because he has fairy memories.

Abby is careful, thoughtful, and smart. She fits these adjectives because she takes good care of herself and her brother and, usually knows what’s happening. Jonah is adventurous, rebellious, and loose. He fits these adjectives because he always takes the “risky road” in life and is always telling his sister to loosen up.

I liked this book. I liked it because it is funny and has major plot twists. I recommend this book to everyone who enjoys fantasy and fairy tales. If you are interested, the first book in this series is called The Fairest of Them All. I give this book four stars.

The Last Kids On Earth by Max Brallier

51BtFHNN45L._SY344_BO1,204,203,200_The book that I chose to read is called The Last Kids on Earth by Max Brallier. The book is part of a series by the same author. The main characters are Jack, Quint, Dirk and June. The main problem is that the planet has been invaded by zombies and monsters and the main character Jack is trying to stop the zombie apocalypse. He is trying to turn the zombies into humans again. The setting of the book is at the school, the treehouse in Jack’s backyard and in the neighborhood where they all live.    

One big event that changed the story was when Jack met his friend because he was going to be all by himself and then he just found a partner. This event was important because, it was easier for him to fight because then he’d have another person and an extra person is really helpful. One thing that I found most interesting was when Jack first shows up at Quint’s house and Jack starts killing all of the zombies. I liked that part because it involves a back yard and a person silently killing a bunch of zombies. Another thing that I found interesting was when everyone at once attacked Blarg who is the big monster in the story. I liked that because I like big battles.

The first adjective I would use to describe Jack is brave. He was brave because he would attack all of the monsters. Another adjective to describe him is determined because everyone else wanted to give up at one point but he said “Now, if we just try a little harder, we can do it.” And he didn’t let them give up. He has a big heart so he is caring. All he wanted to do throughout the whole book was to save this girl named June from the zombies. One quote that Jack said was “I’m an orphan.” It is an important quote because it shows that he only needs to take care of himself since he doesn’t have a family.

I enjoyed this book because it involved a lot of war and it involved monsters and zombies. I like those things because they both involve weapons. I recommend this book because it has a great story, great author, and great illustrations. I think this book is related to the TV show called The Walking Dead because that’s like a town that gets invaded by zombies and the book is like a town that gets invaded too. I would rate this book 4 stars!!!!!!!!!!!

The War That Saved My Life, Kimberly Brubaker Bradly

For our last book review we had a choice out of many options to choose what we wanted to do. I chose to make a movie. First I made a script and then I did each characters part. I read this book because it helps you understand the struggle of kids with problems, living in World War 2. It tells you about history with a twist. Some things were hard for me to understand because I couldn’t ever imagine that somebody would do something so cruel.  In my video, I played all the characters, which was pretty hard. I think one of my least favorite parts was when I had to be a character named Miss Smith, and when I had to fall on the street about six times. Not to forget I was on the STREET! I would rate this book FIVE STARS AND A SMILEY FACE :D!

The Wig In The Window by Kristen Kittscher

          For our final book review, our teachers told us to be creative.  They gave us options about how to do the review. Some of the options were: a diorama, a movie, dear diary etc. This isn’t just an ordinary, boring review, it’s a dear diary review! The book that I wrote this about is called the Wig in the Window, by Kristen Kittscher. It’s about to girls who are troublemakers. They always need to know what’s going on around them, and sometimes that just gets them in trouble, but sometimes it doesn’t…

                                          Oh Dear…Diary!

        Dear diary, as you already know, Grace is my best friend/spy partner. Now we’re in 7th grade, and Dr. Agford (aka Dr. Awkward) is one of the teachers. Agford is my neighbor. She has a group of kids under her “spell” and they’re in a little club of hers. Their group name is S.M.I.L.E. It stands for the Society for Making Improvements in Lives Everywhere. There was always something that seemed a little off about Agford but I could never really put it together or I thought it was just in my head… until our first late night spy mission to Dr. Awkward’s house, and everything fell into place.

         First there was blood and a knife (I saw it through the window.) Then the door opened. Then a phone call to some mysterious person, and finally threatening and screaming. It was all so unbelievable. Then I ran, but I tripped and fell in a small ditch. I think she saw me, but I’m not sure. It was dark outside and she might not have seen my face, but she definitely saw someone.

         The next day things got even worse, let me just say Agford definitely saw me last night. Then when I got to school the principal made me tell everyone what happened last night. Then Agford cleared EVERYTHING up. The blood was from beets. The knife was to cut the beets. And the phone call still remains a mystery. I still think Agford is very suspicious. I don’t trust her. And I don’t want to leave school because the principal is sending a note home to my parents, and I don’t want to find out what my punishment is going to be.

        When I got home my parents were so disappointed in me. They were also very mad, and they said my punishment would not be a good one. My punishment turned out to be even worse than I thought. I was grounded for months and even worse I had to do therapy with Agford every week! And the worse part of this whole thing is my parents think Agford is a nice innocent women. But at least no one suspects Grace was a part of it, and Grace is home schooled so I don’t think Agford even knows her. There’s no way I’m going to rat her out. She’s my best friend!

        Now weeks have gone by and Agford is at my house again! She’s not as bad anymore, but there are still some things that still seem a bit off about her. Now she is in my room! She is looking around and then she said something that I never thought about before. She said that I remind her of her when she was my age. When she left I couldn’t stop thinking about what she said. Am I going to grow up like her? Is she right? Agford seems kind of wise now. I wonder if she is that bad person we think she is? She has to be! But what if she’s not? Have we been wrong  all along?

Percy Jackson and The Battle of The Labyrinth

I read Percy Jackson and the Battle of the Labyrinth by Rick Riordan. I chose this scene because I felt like in this book battles mostly happen the forest against his enemy Luke so I did that. I also thought Percy usually wins a lot anyways so I put him next to a river ( which gives him an advantage since he’s son of the sea god.) Also because it feels like it would be major scene in the whole series.

Rumpelsiltskin by Liesl Shurtliff

This is the final book blog post of the year and our teacher said we can do a different type of presentation, so I am doing a diorama for the book Rumpelstiltskin. The diorama will be of Rumpelstiltskin mining for gold in the hard times he lived in. Before he knew he could spin gold, he needed to mine for gold if he wanted food to survive. Over all the years, the gold in the caves he mines in are all collected and now there is nothing left.

Bridge To Terabithia

 

The reason I chose this scene from the book to be in my diorama because I think it’s an important scene in the book. It is also when Jess (the main character) and Leslie (Jess’s best friend) made their land which they call Terabithia.Terabithia is a made up fairy tale place that sort of takes them out of the real world. I think this is an important part of the story because Jess and Leslie go on little missions, like to slay a giant (really just a big bully in school). This story is very thoughtful and fun, but take your time when you’re reading it don’t rush. Even though it is a good book it can be confusing. This diorama is showing the scene in the story that most speaks to me.Sofia's Diorama
