The Homework Machine By Dan Gutman

One of the books I read this summer is The Homework Machine By Dan Gutman. The book takes place in a city in Arizona. The main characters are Brenton, Sam, Kelsey, and Judy. The situation is that Brenton is a genius so he built a machine that does your homework for you in your own hand writing. All of a sudden mysterious people arrive and start asking random kids in their town questions like “what computer software do you use?” Or “do you know anything about a homework machine?”

 

The 4 kids have used the homework machine for a while now when all of a sudden Sam is absent for 2 days. Then after 2 days his teacher runs into the cafeteria during lunch with a tear running down her cheek yelling that Sam’s father has died. Kelsey also lost her father when she was young and she started sobbing. When Sam came back everyone gave him a big hug. Then this guy named Marley starts showing up at Brenton’s door so Brenton decides to give the homework machine to Sam for him to keep so its safe. I can’t tell you about Marley with out giving away one of the best parts of the story. After a while they become obsessed with the machine and the 4 of them decide to throw it into the Grand Canyon. It’s a short book so I don’t want to say too much.

 

I enjoyed this book a lot because it is has a lot to do with technology and the characters are extremely friendly with each other. I am labeling this as Realistic Fiction because with the technology today it is definitely possible. I rate the book 5 stars. I am looking forward to reading the next book Return of the Homework Machine.

Antonio Spirit Animals

The book I read is Spirit Animals. It is about four 11 year old kids who get a life long companion called a “spirit animal”. In the land of Erdas a week after your 11th birthday the Greencloaks give you a nectar ceremony. In the nectar ceremony you drink the nectar of Lennori. Lennori is the smartest person in all of Erdas. There’s a one in 100 chance to get a spirit animal by drinking this nectar. These four kids got special animals, ones that are impossible to get. Briggan the Wolf, Uraza the Leopard, Essixs the Falcon, and Jhi the Panda were the animals that became their lifelong companions. The kids names are Rollan (Essix) Meilin (Jhi) Abeke (Uraza) and Conor (Briggan). I hope you enjoy the video and you are inspired to read the book.

Joey Pigza Swallowed The Key by Jack Gantos

urlThe best ever book is called Joey Pigza Swallowed The Key. It was written amazingly by Jack Gantos. It is about a kid who can’t even stand still. His name is Joey Pigza. He is in a special school because he is so crazy. I don’t know anyone like him, he’s too crazy This book takes place in Philadelphia where he grew up. Joey has only one friend. His name is Charlie. Charlie has really tiny arms so he has to go the special school too.

 

 

Joey calls himself “wired”. He will jump around in circles and do many crazy things like banging on lockers and screaming at school. Joey is also very annoying to everyone. His teacher will ask him something and he will say “Can I get back to you on that?” and start laughing so hard. But he is also very smart. He loves doing math drills because he does them in two seconds when they normally take 5 minutes. One funny part was when Joey’s grandma got so annoyed by him that she ran into the sewers and ran until she got to Pittsburgh. I don’t know how, but she was crazy too! The special Ed teacher at school made Joey wear bunny slippers to help him sit still. However this did not work. It made the situation worse.

 

 

I loved this book because its a quick read. It took me only the break to read it. Another awesome thing about this book is that it has some interesting characters to listen to and talk about. I bet you if you read this you will be talking about it. I definitely recommend this book to people that like comedy because there were a lot of funny parts. Joey Pigza Swallowed the Key is not really related to any book that I heard of but I can’t wait to read Joey Pigza Loses Control which is the next book in the series. I rate this bookimages

Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli

The book I read is called Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli. The book is about a boy named Jeffrey Magee who is homeless. After his parents died he moved to his Aunt’s house (like Harry Potter) but then ran away because the Aunt and Uncle hated each other. During the story he moves into four different homes. The story takes place in Two Mills, Pennsylvania.

 

Maniac is really generous because he always helps people out and fixes problems. There was a time when he helped a family do everything like dishes, cleaning, and repairing a stove. He is really talented at everything because he always scores a touchdown or wins races. For example he scored 49 touchdowns in one game making the score 295 Magee 0 Hands Down, which was his friend’s team. He is also very encouraging to people around him. He suggested to his friends to go to school even if they didn’t want to go. My favorite part in the book was when he first moved into a house with a girl named Amanda Beals. She was so nice and offered him books to read. Another good part was when he got a baseball glove that belonged to his old friend named Grayson for Christmas. The funniest part was when he was in church and he screamed A-MEN! and everyone laughed because he just couldn’t hold it in anymore. It was contagious.

I really enjoyed this book because it was an awesome adventure about a cool character. He shows us how to unite a black and white town. Maniac Magee made me laugh when he’d make jokes about himself. He joked about how he was so good at everything. I recommend this book because you can read it quickly and easy. I would recommend it to people who like adventure novels and stories about boys. This book is unique and I never read anything like it. Maniac Magee is like no other book that I read because it is about a homeless boy who is awesome at everything he does. I don’t know why or how.

Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing By Judy Blume

Peter, in the book Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing, has a problem in his family. My book is Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing By Judy Blume. The main characters are Dribble the turtle, Fudge, and Peter. The story is about a boy named Peter who is in fourth grade. He has a little brother named Fudge who is very annoying. All the chapters have a mix of different problems in their life. The book takes place in New York.

 

Peter is very patient because Fudge sometimes does not want to do activities and is babyish. So no matter what Peter encourages Fudge to play nicely. Peter gets frustrated when his mom doesn’t support him when he is arguing with his brother. Peter is also very annoyed that he has a little brother because Fudge is always messing around with Dribble. In fact Fudge actually ate him. One part I found interesting was when Fudge thought he could fly so he jumped off the top of the jungle gym and lost his two front teeth. Then Peter kept calling him “Fangs” because it looked like he had fangs. This made his mother mad but I thought it was funny. Fudge really didn’t care and joked pointing to his mouth saying “All gone.” The funniest part is when Fudge actually ate Dribble… Peter discovered Dribble was missing from his bowl and Fudge was pointing to his belly saying “Dribble in this tummy!” Then his mom took Fudge to the emergency room and the doctor gave Fudge castor oil, milk of magnesia, and prune juice to get Dribble out. Finally at midnight Dribble came out! Fudge came home from the hospital with a hand full of presents from his mom because she felt bad for him. Then their dad came home from work with the biggest present of all. It was for Peter and instead of a new turtle it was a dog!! Peter named it Turtle to remind him of Dribble. The dad said it was for Peter ONLY. This made Peter feel so happy and loved.

 

 

I loved the book because Peter has a lot of things to deal with and it is very funny. I recommend this book to people who read the other Judy Blume books because it is awesome. This book is not really connected to any books I have heard of. I give this book 3 stars because it is not that interesting. I prefer books that are long and take a while to read and are about adventures.

The Lost Hero by Rick Roirdan

My book is The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan. The main characters are Piper, Leo and Jason. They all have one godly parent and a mortal parent. Also Piper can tell anyone what to do with charm speak, Leo can summon fire and Jason can summon lighting. Piper is the daughter of  Aphrodite (Goddess of Love), Jason is the son of Zeus (God of the Sky and king of the Gods) and Leo is the son of Hephaestus (God of Fire and Blacksmiths).

The main problem is the main characters are trying to stop Gaea from destroying the Gods. Gaea is mother Earth (Goddess of Earth). The story takes place in many locations but the main area is New York.

Trying to stop Gaea by killing all her different monsters is the main theme of the story. They have many different ways to kill them like using lightning to kill Giants. Piper, Leo and Jason have ADHD to make their fighting more enhanced. What I mean by enhanced is they have more energy to fight. They are part of an important prophecy. A prophecy is something good or bad that will happen in the future.

I loved this book. I recommend this book to people who read the Percy Jackson books or anyone who likes adventure and Greek mythology. I rate this book five stars because it is an awesome story and it takes your mind on a roller-coaster of dreams.
