LCS- Statements about stealing
Suppose you could be assured that if you stole something, you would never get caught. Does this change what is the right thing to do? Why or why not? Does the “value” of what you steal make a difference?
Stealing isn’t the real issue; the amount that’s stolen is. — I know it’s not the right thing to do, but it doesn’t seem too bad. — It’s not wrong to “borrow” $20 from your parents’ wallet overnight. — It’s not for me; it’s to help a friend.
What other excuses have you heard for stealing? Why do you think that people make these excuses? Are they effective? What price may a person who makes an excuse like this pay even if they don’t get caught?
You stole something and now it looks like you could turn it into a potential business opportunity. Why should you stop now?

If I stole something and I could turn it into a business opportunity, I would stop stealing, because if the stealing gets you far, people could ask questions and wonder why. And if you made up a story about it that goes into the topic of lying. Then to cover up my lie I would have to lie again. Very soon, and likely someone would discover that I stole and lied. It would ruin a lot, such as the business, trust and a lot more.
Value, makes a huge difference in lying, and so does the effect on stealing. If I stole something big and the risk was high, I wouldn’t do it, even if it would help someone else, because the risks are to high and I would likely get caught. If the friend I was helping was close, and if she/he was depending on it, that changes a lot. If I was stealing something small, and meaningless, to help someone else that is close, I would probably steal it depending on the effect on me and others.
lying and cheating are ok, but stealing you could go to jail for.
I disagree, lying and cheating are not ok things, even though there are greater consequences for stealing, there are still consequences for lying and cheating, even though they can be minor.
I think Elisabeth is right. It is not okay to cheat and lie because lying can lead onto more lying, and then you have to cover up your other lie with a lie and it just leads to more lies. Cheating and stealing. Stealing is like exactly what Ming said you can’t just steal for other people think of the consequences you could get into some serious trouble. Cheating, there are many different types of cheating. But overall I think that these things are never just okay to do.
I agree, you could…But sometimes you can steal something small, like a pencil or something. Sometimes I might take an expensive application on my computer for free. The worst part is that feeling of guilt in your stomach afterwards.
yeah, i agree. Stealing, leads to more and more stealing.
I agree with Ming because even if you did lie and your business grew, people would wonder where you are getting the money or supplies from and you would lie to cover yourself up. Then you would continue lying and sooner or later you would overlap on your self and you business would go down the drain. i.e.: some asks you where you got the CDs from and you say,”I bought them.” A few weeks later a different person asks you where you got the CDs from and you say, “A friend gave them to me.”
I agree with Ming, stealing leads to more stealing and also guilt. There is also a risk. If you shop lift or something like that you could get in big trouble.
I agree with Ming that the likeliness of you actually stealing something depends on what you’re stealing and how big of an impact it’ll make.
I agree with Ming because if I stole a pack of gum, I wouldn’t feel too bad about it (even though it is wrong, and I wouldn’t do it) But, if it was a big thing, i would NEVER steal it
I think that the little bit of guilt from stealing the gum is the worst consequence.
I agree with ming. I think that they’re many different impacts that stealing has. If you steal something big like a jewelry item or something that means a lot/ is exspensive you would probally be in jail for a longer period of time rather then if you stole a bag of lettuce from the super market.
I think that stealing is not a good thing to do, even if it has a business opportunity attached to it. Most people think that the won’t get caught so they decide to steal, but if the do get caught, which is very likely, it could ruins relationships and friendships and it most likely get you in a lot of trouble.
I agree with Ciro also whenever you look at what you stole you will have a feeling of guilt
I agree. I think that stealing and making a business out of it is bad not just because it is kind of cheating in the game of life, but also you can’t really give yourself credit for any of the money you receive. It’s like you are haunting yourself.
If you stole a candy bar from a store, that’s bad, but it’s not the right thing to do.
Stealing is not a good thing to do, even if it might help you in life or be something VERY important. People think they will not get caught, so they do it very often. It might also RUIN
some things like family and friends. Also if you get caught it comes with trouble.
This is a little confusing.
I think that even if you couldn’t get caught, stealing is still a stupid thing to do. If you think there is a small chance that you could caught, you are more likely to steal. Stealing can get you in serious trouble. But I disagree with the comment that says lying and cheating are ok because they are NOT!!!
Even if I wouldn’t get caught if I stole from someone, it doesn’t change what is the right thing to do. The right thing to do is to NOT steal. The amount or the value of what you stole doesn’t make a difference but it is your actions that matter. If you steal now, that could affect what job you get or how much people will trust you.
i agree but sometimes the stealer go’s to jail for that just like in the simulation but go to jail. Maybe but very unlikely the person would not get caught. I also thing lying and cheating are not as bad as stealing
I think why teens steal to impress there friends and they not that person who doesn’t want to get in trouble
Sometimes people steal because they want to. They see something, maybe at a friend’s house, or a store. They really want it, so much that they are willing to steal. Then they steal it, and it feels cool to have that thing for free. Then they’ll keep stealing things they want until it becomes a huge part of their life. If one day they get caught, they could get in a HUGE amount of trouble, after all they’ve done. By then, it’s too late to apologize and give everything back.
stealing is really bad compared to lying or cheating because you can never make up for it but Ming does have a point value does matter.
and if you get caught you can go to prison if its really bad
I think that stealing can start off small, but it can elevate into a hobby, and that is not a good habit. Therefor, for lying and cheating too, it is not good to develop a bad habit of these things.
Stealing is bad but the CIA and the FBI steal millions of Terra bytes of personal data to “keep us safe”.
we can make of that that stealing is OK
I disagree, stealing is not ok, also cheating and lieing are not better than stealing just because there might be a bigger punishment for stealing none of the concepts are ok.
A lot of people said that stealing is worse than lieing and cheating because you have a bigger punishment therefore lieing and cheating are ok but that is not true the other two are still bad.

sorry about all of my comments It didn’t appear before. 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
Stealing is bad just like cheating but if not worse.
It is bad for these three main reasons You could get arrested, get expelled from school, and lose everyones trust. Even if it is just 5.00$ it is still something. The only time I could think of that is not insane is if you need to get someone to get to a hospital so they don’t die. Let’s say you and a few girls went to the mall and stole some makeup brushes or clothes or anything it will go onto a record and it will definitely affect your future wither it’s a job or someones trust.
I totally agree with Sadye! Stealing is really bad and no one should ever do it. Some people may do it because of peer pressure, but no one should ever follow someone who does that. Your parents could find out, you could get arrested, there are many consequences for stealing. It doesn’t even matter what someone stole, it’s bad in every way. Even if you didn’t steal something from a store, maybe that something is a friends, or siblings. It’s still a bad decision, any kind of way.
I agree with Annabelle and Sadye, stealing is wrong no matter who or what you do it to. Some kids think stealing is cool, but I think it’s the total opposite. When you steel, it is usually because you don’t have the money for it or you are jealous of the person who had it. They might have loved it and might be really sad when they find that it is gone. Think about how you would feel if it was yours.
Stealing is really wrong just because its not good and also sometimes the things that you are stealing can be very special to someone. Also it can make you feel really guilty inside and thats not going to be a good feeling. And last if you get caught you would get into a lot of trouble! So don’t steal!
I agree with Cate because there is no type of good stealing from stealing something big to stealing a water bottle at a pretzel stand it’s all bad.
It always leads to guilt and problems that you never knew would happen until you told your best friend what happened and it spread around the whole school.
