Hardship in people’s life can mean different things. In the book The Circuit by Francisco Jimenez sometimes it’s the loss of a item or loved one. At others it’s a loss of a trinket or book. But when these happen there is always something to learn. Like when Francisco lost his book with all his English words in it he realized that he knew every one by heart. Another one is when he loses his special penny but he realizes that family is more important. When Francisco’s life gets hard he learns something new and makes it better.
When Francisco wants the cotton sack he realizes he needs to work for it. He really wants a cotton sack so he can work with his family but his dad won’t give it to him because he needs to earn it. His dad thinks he is too little and weak to pick cotton so he doesn’t want to spend the money they earn on another cotton sack. In the beginning of a story he asks for a sack but his dad doesn’t give him one. ”Where is mine, I asked.” page 61. Francisco realizes he’s not going to get one if he does not work for it and prove he deserves one. This quote connects to the idea that when life gets hard or tough for him he finds a way to get what he wants or make it better. He has to work for what he wants.
When Francisco is part of a game that feels unfair, he learns about standing up for himself and others. He tries to leave the game and go play with the other kid but the guy wouldn’t let him leave the game. Francisco tries to be nice but he forgets as the game goes on. On page 86 Carlos yells “No! I told you he’s too slow” This is when Francisco feels that life is unfair and he can’t always get what you want. This relates to the thesis because when his life is hard he learns different things that will A cor in his life.
When Francisco gets candy for Christmas it disappoints him and he realizes that he can’t always get what he wants. He really wants a red ball for Christmas and he doesn’t get it. He becomes sad and he realizes that he can’t always get what he wants. “I started to cry.” The quote is when he didn’t get a ball gets upset about how he didn’t get a ball. But he learns you can’t always get what you want in life. But his mother did get what she wanted and he felt happy for her.
In The Circuit Francisco realizes that he can’t get everything he wants all the time. Like when he wants the ball for Christmas but he gets candy and he becomes really sad. Also when he wants the cotton sack but his dad says he’s too young to pick cotton. When Francisco tries to include somebody in his game but the other kids don’t let him and he realizes life isn’t always fair. In the end Francisco realizes that life is not fair but he learns valuable lessons.
