During a Big Time on tuesday we went Exit Polling. Exit polling is when you go to a voting station and you ask people who they voted for. We split up  into groups and we went to different places. My group went to a school. We saw many people go inside to vote but for some reason not many people came out. We got a few people but most people didn’t want to answer our questions. I remember at one point a man saw me walking up to him and he ran away! We met some pretty interesting people. We met one lady who took a photo of us and posted it on twitter. We met another lady who took selfies with all of us. There was also this one guy who said that he couldn’t answer our questions because he had to get to work. Then a few minutes later we saw him again walking in a different direction. At that point we realized that he was just avoiding us. We noticed that people were walking out of the school in the opposite side of the street. So we walked over to the other side of the street turns out that people were only walking in the other direction to avoid us. But it was really fun asking people questions.

Every person throws out about 4.3 pounds of garbage everyday.  Most people don’t stop to think about what happens to there garbage .

There is no such thing as away.

Most people think that it just disappears but it doesn’t. It actually depends on where you live. If  lived in Virginia a couple of years ago then your trash would go to what is now called Mount Trashmore.

But in many places such as New York. There is no place to put the trash in fact people used to put there trash in the Hudson River.

The world has become a dangerous place because of garbage. Many people have great ideas about where to put there garbage. But in some places they don’t know where to put it so they end up living in there garbage. Like in Cambodia, Kioto, Nicaragua, Philippines. etc.

This is an Ushabti. An Ushabti is a statue that is placed inside the tomb. Once the person was in the after life the Ushabti would come to life and work for the person in the after life.  Before Ushabtis the Pharaoh would have his or her servants killed and buried with them.

In art I made a Canopic Jar. A Canopic Jar is a jar that Egyptians used to store intestines and organs. Certain Canopic jars were used to store different body parts. For example Imsety had a human head he protected the liver, Qebehsenuf had the head of a falcon and guarded the intestines, Hapy had a baboon head protected the lungs, Duamatef had the head of a jackal and guarded the stomach.  The four Canopic Jars were put in a chest which went into the tomb with the mummy. 

In science we played a simulation game called Shark Tank. In the game we had three species. Sharks, minnows, and seaweed.  At the beginning of the simulation we had  1  shark , 4 minnows and 14 seaweed.  In real life sharks would eat the minnows and the minnows would eat the seaweed.  Since sharks are very fast they could run to get the minnows.  Minnows could not go very fast so they had to walk.  And the seaweed had to stay planted on the floor.  We all had to come up with strategies to help most of the species survive.  Different kids had different ideas. Then we all agreed on one idea. Since there were 4 minnows then two of the would sacrifice themselves and die and the other two would eat 2 seaweed. One seaweed to survive and one seaweed to reproduce. That would also help the shark. It would let  the shark survive.  This strategy also benefited the seaweed.  Every seaweed that survives gets to reproduce.

My mother and I  talked about the Apple phone problem. My mom thinks that having Apple watch over people through their phone is a violation of people’s privacy. I think that the government isn’t really thinking of what could happen if Apple had direct access to all Apple devices. I think that if Apple does do this people would be at a higher risk of getting hacked. Not only by illegal hackers but also by the Apple company employees. If all people working for Apple have access to people’s devices some of the workers can use that information for bad things, such as giving it to terrorists or using it for their own uses. I think that what happened with the hacking of the hospitals infermation is very scary. I think that when the hospital got the message to pay the hackers  money, the hospital should have notified the authorities. I think that the hospital is going to close down. If Apple is going to use that software I think they would lose many customers. I think that Apple would also let down a lot of people, because some people buy Apple products because they know that they are safe. But know who knows what could happen. My mom thinks that world is becoming a very unsafe place. When I come to think about it, there are so many cameras so that the government knows where you are all the time. That scares me a little because although the government helps keep us safe, it’s scary to know that random strangers are watching us all the time.   

My partner and I read Mud City by Deborah Ellis. Our partnership was very sucessful because me and Jade are very good friends and we talk a lot. So we talked alot about the book at any moment. I’m proud that we managed to stay on topic and we did not have any side coversations. We only talked about the book and the homework. One challenge for me was staying open minded while reading the book. Because some parts of the book can be very boring.

My mother and I had a conversation about Gun Violence. The things we discussed were… how there should be no guns at all, I came up with this one I think that if no one has a gun then no one can get hurt. 

Then my mom brought up the fact that if the United States had no guns then that would be good but the rest of the world have access to guns. I remembered that in the video Barack Obama had said that they were going to do background checks before someone buys a gun. I don’t think that background checks are a good idea because even if someone has never committed a crime that does not mean that they can’t hurt someone.

My mom said that if the country takes better care of our veterans than that would mean that they would not have access guns or weapons. I think that if we had all the genius of the world come up with ways to protect our selves from guns then there would be less hurt in the world.                                                                      

This is my texture paper collage. While making my collage learned that if you take a bowl of paint,and splatter it all over paper then let it dry after it’s done drying it feels like leather. I think this is an example of my best work.
