Summer Has Come To An End

Sadly summer has come to an end, but i’m so excited for sixth grade. I think i’ve grown a lot over the summer physically and academically.  I think that i’m a bit taller than I was last year. I’ve also  become more responsible, caring, and hardworking. I’m really excited for this year I think that I have grown over the summer and I can’t wait to see myself progress this year and many  years after. I’ve had an amazing summer of learning and excitement.  Sixth grade here I come !

Summer Reading

The third and final book I read this summer was Airman by Eoin Colfer. The book is about a boy named Conor Broekhart who lives on the sovereign Saltee Islands. He spends most of his time studying science. When his is not studying  he plays with the king’s daughter, Princess Isabella. Since she is a princess, she only likes to play games about her being held hostage, and a brave knight or prince saving her. Conor does not like these kinds of games he’d rather spread his wings and practice flying

Besides not liking the games he plays, his life does not have any problems until his king’s life is threatened. Being  good friends with the king’s daughter he tries to help save the king but ends up in jail instead ! Which is not right at all ! He’s trying to do the right thing but instead ends up in the wrong place. He can’t do much there but mine for diamonds. He knows that there is only to escape and that is to fly.

Lindy’s Dream

Have you ever wanted to be something in life to change something to make a difference, to change the world? Lindy felt that way she was a tiny 8 year old girl in a big city. She didn’t have much but that didn’t keep her from dreaming. She lived in an orphanage kind of like Annie except there was no sing and dancing . She would tell all the other girls at the orphange about how she was going to make a difference but nobody believed her. “I wish!” said Jackie “Dream on” said karlie “You’re still young once you get older like me you’ll learn that dreams don’t come true!” said Hayley. They tried to crush her dreams, but that would never happen.

She was different from the others she didn’t have many friends they didn’t share the same interests. She wanted to be something in life and they didn’t. But the biggest difference was they all knew where they came from but she didn’t, all she knew was where she wanted go. Little by little she went somewhere. Once a week she was allowed to go to the library for 1 hour she studied so much and she loved to read. She knew that if she wanted to change something it would take a lot of work. Finally she did change something something small, but it made a big difference to her. She asked her caretaker to give every girl in the orphanage their birth certificate so they could learn a bit about themselves. She did get access to them but it didn’t change anything.

As she got older she started realizing more and more problems in the world and in her community. She also came up with ways to solve those problems. Everyone told her she needed to be a rich girl to solve those problems they were probably right but she said “ Money doesn’t change anything it just makes you think you’ve made a difference and the truth is if you have a lot of money you most likely won’t know the problem of an everyday citizen, which means you can’t relate to them which means you can’t solve their problems.” She wanted to be able to realte to a normal person.

One nice summer day a day she’ll  always remeber August 16th 2016 the day she was adopted. She had gotten the news the day before that a family wanted to adopt her, she was so excited. She put on her nicest outfit a white shirt with a heart on it, a red schoolgirl skirt, and her green boots. She was so excited to meet them until she met them. They were a very rich family husband (John), wife (Carol) their two daughters ( Emma and Madison), their son( Frederick) , and the dog (Rose). She did not like them at all! The family was telling Lindy about how much their money could help her make the world a better place. She didn’t need money but no one understood that! They ended up adopting her, and Lindy lived the life of a rich girl servants waiting on her hand and foot getting everything she wants and more. When Lindy was an adult she became the first woman president in the United States Of America! The moral of this story is you don’t need a lot of money to make a big difference.

I Made…

At the camp I go to it is a tradition to have a special day dedicated to being creative, we’re called creative arts and athletics for a reason! Hat day is a day to make  hat of any kind of any theme and bring it into camp.

In camp we have  groups of kids with a group leader. On that special day first thing in the morning campers would go to a table with a name tag and name their hat, since my hat was a beach theme I named it Under The Sea! After you named your hat you would go sit with your group then that hat day parade began! Everyone sat in a giant room and at the end of the room their was a panel of judges and a radio playing music. The judges had pieces of paper and they wrote down what they thought of each person’s hat! Since there are a lot of people in the camp, kids would compete with the kids in their group.

The judges would choose who they liked best! After the the judges saw everyone’s hat kids would go about their day as if it was a regular camp day. After lunch everyone in the camp would go the cafeteria and get ice cream so many delicious flavors and toppings! Then you would go off to their next class. At the end of the day everyone gathered and the winners were announced In my group I won!!! Each person who one got three packs of skittles yay!

You all heard about the actual hat day but let me tell you about my actual hat! At first I didn’t know what  the theme for my hat was going to be. I thought for a little while and I finally settled on a theme, many different themes all in one hat!  I was going to call my hat Another Kind Of Crazy ! I had everything planned out for my hat I was going to divide the hat with pipe cleaners and put the name of the theme of that part of the hat on the top with a mini chalk board. I was sure that I wanted to my hat like that so

I went to michaels. Once we were there my mom asked me the question “What is going to be the theme of your hat?” I looked around aimlessly and I finally came to the conclusion that my hat was not realistic so I said I don’t know! So she said well there’s a lot of stuff here about the beach maybe you could a beach hat ! A beach hat I thought to myself okay!

Let’s do a beach hat! First I bought a base for my hat I chose a brown foam cowboy hat. Then I saw a pack of sea shells and I decided to get those. Then I bought some Blue glitter glue, regular glue mini fish, sharks and dolphins. Then I saw the coolest thing a felt crafting kit! I got two kits one to make a crab and the other to make a purple clam. I also saw a kit to make a octopus! I glued all the things on my hat it took quite a long time to dry because I used a lot of glitter glue as the water. Once my hat was finished my mom said that it was missing something so we added some moss and rocks and then it was a real beach hat! https://drive.google.com/drive/my-drive

Summer Reading

This summer I read Inside Out and Back Again By Thanhha Lai. Ha is a ten year old Saigonese girl. Saigon is a beautiful place everyone loves the thrills of its market, and their wonderful traditions. But lately Ha and her family have been seeing bombs go off in the distance. Things got even worse when they turned on their TV one morning, and saw their president Thieu, was brim with tears telling his people that he cannot continue to be the president. He told everyone that he would never leave his people and his country. Now they have no one to rule them to protect them and the Vietnam War has reached Ha and her family’s home.

They had no choice but to flee Saigon and all that’s there with it, the papaya tree growing in her backyard and all her friends. They fled by Navy ship, they were lucky that Ha’s father had worked in the Navy unless they would not be able to get on that boat. They went to California. They were only able to pack one pair of pants, one pair of shorts, three pairs of underwear, two shirts, sandals, toothbrush and paste, soap, ten palms of rice grains, and three clumps of cooked rice. They didn’t know what there new life would bring them but they knew that they would be safe, and they were.

Summer Reading

This summer I read The Diary Of Anne Frank. Anne Frank is a jewish girl who sadly happened to be caught in World War 2, between  Adolf Hitler and his army of  Nazis against the Jews. Her diary was found in the attic in which she spent the last years of her life. Anne was born on June 12th, 1929 in Frankfurt. By this time Hitler owned most Europe. Her father Otto Frank did not wait for the the Natizs to force them out of the their country. In 1933 the Franks left Frankfurt. Mrs. Frank and her two daughters Margot and Anne joined her mother (their grandmother) Achen, near the Belgian border. Meanwhile Otto Frank went directly to Holland. There he became a worker in a food products business. In the spring of 1943 the Franks reunited and settled in Amsterdam.

Everything was going great Anne was living the life of any other Dutch girl. But all of the changed in 1940 when the Germans invaded Holland. That’s when  all the anti-Jewish rules were placed and Jews were sent to extermination camps. The Dutch protested and striked but there was nothing that they could do. In February 1941 the Nazis launched their first roundup of Jews in Amsterdam. From there they were sent to reception camps at Westerbork and Vught and from there shipped into eastward in Germany. The roundups kept continuing and that’s when Anne’s father made arrangements to go into hiding. On July 5th, 1942 the Germans summoned for Anne’s 16 year old sister Margot to report to deportation. The next morning they went into hiding.

After being in hiding for a couple of years they heard the good news that they were going to be rescued. They were so happy they even started making plans of what they were going to do when the returned to their normal lives. There were death threats against Hitler unless the Nazis surrendered. The Germans did not surrender.  Many other countries helped  the English defeat the Germans, but sadly they were not able to rescue everyone.

Everyone like Anne. Anne and her family were selected to be moved to Belsen in Germany. On there way there Annes mother died. Her father was lucky enough to be rescued by the Russians. In Belsen Margot got sick sick and died. Anne was not informed of her sisters death but once she sensed it she died shortly after. Weeks before the war ended.

I Learned…

This summer at camp, I learned quite a few dances. I took five dance  classes Hip Hop Heaven, B.A.M ( ballet and modern), Dance Fever, Zumba, and Jazz Funk. I had a lot of fun learning all the dances. At the end of the second week of camp we had a preforming night called the Evening Noontime Show. The Evening Noontime Show is a night in which parents come and see a little sneak peak of what their kids have learned and created, because kids get to take other classes besides dance!  Sadly, I could not make it to the Evening Noontime Show so they had to do the performances without me. Luckily on the last day of camp we have something called the Creative Arts Festival! The Creative Arts Festival is a day in which kids can show their parents even more things that they created or learned. I had so much fun!

Most of the dances I learned were choreographed by the dance teacher, but in some classes we got to make up our own dances ! Each person would have eight to sixteen counts in the dance. Once you knew what steps you wanted to use you would teach it to the class. When I was teaching my steps I was so happy! I normally make up my own dances but I don’t show it to people, So when I was told to make my own steps I worked hard on what my steps were going to be. Because the way I saw it was this is your chance to show people what kind of dancer you are and, to put yourself out there and that’s exactly what I did! Here are some of the dances I learned!
