Knight Monologue
Today, I will be a knight. Fourteen years of hard work has payed off. I have also taken a great deal of trickery and lies; I am a knight, yes, but I am also a girl. My name is Maggie, but when I am a boy I am Masson. I have always wanted to be a knight, and my mother before me. But my mother was caught and was forced to become a noble, even though it wasn’t bad. There were worse reputations out there, but that was why Mother wanted to be a knight, to protect them. and was watched carefully 24/7 for a few years. My Father was a knight, before he died in battle, and he left Mother and me with us in his old knight castle and an acre of land. I know if he was alive he would never let me be a knight, but Mother completely supports me. She cuts my hair for me, she makes me look like a boy the best she can. After lying in bed contemplating my thoughts I jump out. My short blond hair is messy but I ignore it for now, I go down stairs into the dining room, people greet me with me boy name, even though I have been using it for fourteen years it still sounds wrong. Masson this, Masson that,
“Good day Masson,”
“Time for your holy bath Mason,” the bath where I wash away all of my sins, oh God, oh God help me. I completely forgot! Oh there is mother, she can help me, oh good. I can take it alone. I’m going into the room, there is the room, I see the room. Okay, good, it really is empty. The basin is full, cool, so, now I undress and get in the tub? Yeah that sound right. Off with the shirt, off with the pants, into the basin. I step into the tub, and ease your way in there you g- Oh! Cold water, very very cold water. Sink in nice and slowly there you go. No just wash a way your sins. It’s not going to be long, you haven’t committed that many sin- wait never mind I might be in here for a while…
It’s been ten minutes, I think I’m done, okay Magg- Masson. Wait who’s knocking on the door? They can’t come in here! I have worked so hard for this, fourteen years, I have waited fourteen years. Wait, it’s cool, it’s Mother. Why is she coming in? “Hello” I say. But before she replies she shuts the door behind her.
“Here are your clothes, you can dress yourself” she says.
“Yes” I reply.
The tunic is so white, so pure. But to think, I get to wear something so beautiful… WAIT. It will be easy to tell I’m a girl wearing this. Im pointing this out to mother. This is bad. Is she holding up a robe. Oh right, the robe. The robe that says that a knight is willing to die in God’s service. I suppose will just wrap it around me differently so people can’t see my chest. Yeah that will do. Now let’s get these cloths on. Okay there we go, now for the robe, Cool I’m one step closer to being a knight. Now it is time to go to the church. I have to pray, and pray and pray. I didn’t get to eat this morning either because All I get to do is pray. Well I suppose some sacrifices must be made.
I’m now at the Church, I rode here on horseback. The priest had told me to bow to the alter. So now I’m where the priest want’s me, so… do I start. The priest is nodding, is that a yes? But I didn’t say anything. Is he reading my mind? No don’t be stupid Mag-MASSON. He can’t read minds. Wait, is that sunlight, yes I see the sun. It’s morning, am I done praying. Yes I think I am, the priest is coming over, he’s helping me up. We are going to the confessional. Oh no, what am I going to do. I know, I’m going to confess everything, except that I’m a girl. Okay, into the booth we go and there is a screen between us, so if i’m lying he can’t tell. Lucky me. This is going to feel very awkward, it just is going to awkward. I have committed a lot of sins, what if I have committed too many oh no wait is he talking?
“You may now confess child.”
“Okay, um, er, hehe, well… I never really liked my father, he was a knight, but he wasn’t a very good one. He didn’t really follow the code of chivalry so when he died I was happy. It is terrible but… proud of my mother… excited for battle… Scared, i’m scared.”
“Everyone is scared child, thank you for the time you have spent in the church, you may go.”
Cool, I’m back at our castle. But I need to put on chain mail. That stuff is super hard to put on, I’m going to need my squire to help me. It is a good thing she is pretending to be a boy too. Here I go, back to my room. I open my door and there sh-he is. And my armor is laid out on my bed. He helps me dress. The chains are heavy and cold. We put armor upon armor on my body, and I think mother had more for me because it will hide that I am a girl. The armor is making my shoulders heavy. The weight is pulling me down, but I have to get used to it. I have to be a knight.
I’m back at the church, I will get my sword and then the priest will bless it. So here we go. He is approaching me, he is carrying a sword. So pretty, so shiny; and it is mine. Mine, and mine to me. All these years I have been waiting for this moment. Now, it has come. I look down at my hands to find that they are shaking. Why are they shaking? I’m not scared, well only that i’m going to be found a girl The pretty sword. My sword. The priest hands it to me. I grasp is in my hands, carefully holding the blade. Its prettier up close, the light from the sun makes it light up and hurt my eyes. The priest lets go and started to mumble prayers, blessing my sword, making it special. My sword, mine. Not father’s old sword mine.
“Take this sword my child, and do great things.” he touches my forehead and walks off. Now it is time for the exciting part. Where the King makes me a knight.
The King’s castle is huge, much bigger than any knight’s home. One of his royal knights walks me down the hall. Our boots making loud thumps that echo around the hall. A lord rushes by us, he nods at me and the knight; he looks at me like I’m a equal. Finally. We are approaching a hall. Stay calm Masson, stay calm. We enter, and the King is standing in the middle of the hall. And in front of him on the ground is a place for me to neal. For him to make me a knight…
Descriptions Using Adjectives in French
So far this year the main topic has been adjectives. We used them in the stuffed animal description, the celebrity description, and the Halloween pictures description. When we learned about adjectives, we learned the placement of the adjectives, the spelling of the adjectives, and the placement of certain letters at the end of adjectives. For example, the placement of adjectives is usually after the noun, but if the adjective is a part of the BAGS rule than it goes in front of the noun. My favorite example of when we used adjectives was in the Celebrity description. I got to describe Luna Lovegood. I got to write all about her where she lives what she likes and what she is like. It was really fun.
Here is the Assigment:
Lucky the two faced cow
two headed animals keep appearing more and more. There are sharks with two heads that are appearing, and so far no scientist has figured out why they keep appearing. A lot of different studies on sharks have shown two headed embryos, or conjoined twin embryos. While raising sharks for human-health research in the laboratory, a team noticed the unusual embryo in a see-through shark egg. But I want to talk about another two headed animal, she is called Lucky. Lucky is a cow calf, she is 44 days old and the longest of her species to last this long with the mutation. The calf, known as Lucky, lives on a farm in Campbellsville, Kentucky Lucky’s lucky Owners are Brandy and Stan McCubbin, they say that they treat her like a baby. But what if someday there is a human baby with two heads, with the same mutation. What would happen to them?
Coat of arms
The Colors on my coat arms are Silver/gray, black, blue, white, orange and green. Silver means peace and sincerity. I put the Silver on the helmet, on the hilt of the sword, the blade of my sword and the chains. I put these here mostly because of the color but it has some meaning too. To me having silver on a hilt of the sword means, I will raise my sword to fight for peace. The second color I used is black, black can represent constancy OR grief. I used it as a mark of constancy, and if you don’t know what that means it mean’s Loyalty, faithfulness and commitment. I put constancy on the falcon wings, because a falcon or hawk, means someone who does not rest until they reached their objective. Blue is the base of my crest and it means truth and loyalty. The white on my crest is only for my motto but I thought I should put it on here that I have it. White also means the same as silver, peace. The orange on my crest is the colors of the foxes around my helmet. Orange means worthy ambition, and the fox means using wisdom the posses in their defense; and I thought that might be a good match. The last color I have on my crest is green. I used it for the acacia branches which means eternal and affectionate remembrance, and green means, hope, joy, and loyalty in love. I could have used black for the branches as some use on their crests but I chose green instead because I thought it was a better fit. Lets talk about the other things in on my coat of arms. I only really talked about the things that the colors relate to.
My sword stands for justice and military honor. The chains represent reward for acceptable and weighty service. The red rose means beauty and grace, and the white rose means love and faith. The panther is fierce but tender and loving to children and will defend children always. The berries that you might not see, mean liberty and peace. And the cross on the bottom of my helmet represents my Christianity. The final thing I want to talk about is my Motto Malum Direxrunt which is Mischief Managed in Latin. I’m sorry, I couldn’t help the Harry Potter.
Ropes Course Thesis
Ashokan Ropes Course
The rope course at Ashokan was the best part because it was entertaining, easy and one of the few fun parts of the trip.
The ropes course was the best part of Ashokan because I thought it was entertaining. The ropes course is a series of ropes that are all tied up to trees that get higher and higher until you need to use a zip line to get off of the course. The ropes course was entertaining because it was challenging for some people and if they messed up and fell and just hung there waiting for something to happen and it was very entertaining. It was also entertaining because during some parts of the ropes course some people would come up with creative ideas to get across the course. Some people just sat in their harness and pulled themselves along. It was a great way, and it was also really entertaining and made everyone laugh. In class we talked about Ashokan, and we talked about what we like there. A lot people talked about how they liked the ropes course, the said it was fun and entertaining to do. And it was also entertaining to do the ropes course not just watch, the zip line made it feel like you were flying, and everyone wants to fly. Everyone wants the sensation of gliding along the air, and you get to do that on the ropes course. Even some people who are afraid of heights said they enjoyed it. The ropes course was extremely enjoyable and entertaining and that was indeed the best part. And an important factor that contributed to the ropes course being awesome is that it was so entertaining, but it was also very easy as well.
Summer reflection
This summer was not the best summer I have ever had, but it was fun and enjoyable. I went to Connecticut and to Nova Scotia and I also wen’t to Québec; and that is what made it not my best summer. I did not put it on my blog but I went up to Québec because my grandpa died this summer and I went up to go the funeral. But the rest of the summer was fun. I learned a lot about Nova Scotia history when I was their. I learned about the Blue Nose which back them be for motor boats were invented, She was the fastest ship on earth. It was so beautiful their that it was easy to learn and I also learned how to play the ukulele their. I can’t play much but I can play. And when I went to Cuttyhunk I just relaxed their and read most of the harry potter series their because there were only about one hundred people on the island so there was not much noise. I’d say the only annoying sound you can here on that island are the dogs barking, which isn’t that annoying. But every thing I did this summer like go to camp, read and play the ukulele was so fun there was hardly anything bad about the summer except for my grandpa. Which was very sad but after that the rest of the summer was really enjoyable. And all the places were a lot more quite that NYC which I thought was awesome to get away from all the noise. That was basically my summer
Nova Scotia
Every Summer I go to Canada usually it is Nova Scotia. Nova Scotia because both of my older brothers live there. This year went to a town called Lunenburg. It is small but very cute and we stayed in a house just outside the town. The house was around a lake which we were allowed to swim and sail in.The weather is a lot cooler in Canada the highs are in late 60’s and early 70’s so the water was a little chilly, but refreshing. The house was very old but I liked it and every one had a room in the house which was good. My brother Tom brought his cat Leo to the house but we were not sure he was allowed so when the owner of the house came to say hi we had to lock Leo in his room. We did a lot of things in Lunenburg; We swam like I said, we sailed, fished, camped, Explored water caves, went to the beach, and went shopping in the town. We left Lunenburg on a Saturday and then went to Halifax were we went horse back riding and I got a ukulele.
Here are some Pics
Caves
This summer I went to Nova Scotia, in this post I am not talking about the whole trip. I’m zooming in on the last day when I went to the Water Caves. It was a Friday and Me and my brothers went to the water caves. We went to a park were the caves were, but they didn’t just have caves. They had a petting zoo too; with goats, chickens and pigs. But we decided to go to the caves first. We walked up a trail that would lead to the water caves. we went into the first cave. We had to walk down a very steep flight of stairs with a sign above us that said: Watch for Falling Rocks which was a little freaky. When we went in the cave it felt like I steeped into Harry Potter. I looked exactly like what you would imagin the cave in the Half Blood Prince were the locket was hidden. It was so magical but we werent standing in the cave we were standing on a platform looking down into the water but it was cool all the same. All the other caves looked like the first one but they were all beautiful.
