French 2nd Trimester Comment

One of my strengths is my speaking and my accent. This is because I hear many people speaking french like my mom all of the time. Another strength is writing sentences. A final strength for me is using vocab in our sentences. A challenge for me is in remembering vocab Another challenge for me is idioms. A goal for me is to be able to remember not to think that you always translate literally in French. Another goal is not forgetting vocab after I learn it. Sometimes once I pass a test on some vocab I forget some of it. Sharyn can help me with my goal of not forgetting vocab. She can help me by maybe giving us other projects that require us to use vocabulary from earlier in the year to see if we remember. My favorite type of activity this year in French was making our models on the monuments in France like when I created the catacombs along with the slideshow project. I would like to do a project like the one we did with the model of the monuments in Paris. We could do something like this with other monuments or something else.  I would like to do this again because it is really fun to make models and still learn about Paris. Maybe we can do this with like a model map of something like the Paris metro map. One other thing I want Sharyn to know is that I have family in France and my grandfather survived the holocaust in France and then came to America.

Here is the link to the recap.

The recap is me saying what is in the doc I am linking below. I think this is my best work, one because I actually planned this recap out. I put the paper up so that I would remember what to say. I also spent a lot of time on the doc. I edited the paper a lot and spent a lot of time on the adjectives. I think this recap also shows the expanse of the adjectives that I know, BAGS or not.

I am also linking to the doc that is the writing of what I said in the recap.

This is what I read in the recap. I spent a lot of time on this trying not to be repetitive with the BAGS adjectives. There were only so many that I could chose from, but I think I made good use of the adjectives I did have. I also think that this shows how I can make sentences using adjectives and nouns. It also shows that I remembered the vocab from the beginning of the year when we studied BAGS adjectives. Finally, this doc shows that I create sentences using vocab that makes sense with my grammar skills including BAGS. This is because as we know BAGS adjectives come before the noun, but other adjectives come after.

French les catacombes project

For this project I created a visual and a writing. A link to the writing is here:https://spark.adobe.com/page/tTtbwwiXHHNsf/. My topic was the catacombs of Paris. One goal that I completed was I learned more about the history of Paris all the way back from when the Romans had just built this limestone mine to the ticket price of the catacombs of Paris now. Another goal I completed was learning more about the Renaissance. I do not know much about the Renaissance but this helped me know more about the political problems of Paris during this time period (1300-1600). A final goal I completed was making a diorama while also using clay. I do not usually do projects like this so it was a goal in itself just to make my visual look pretty good. During this project I learned that the Paris metro has line 1 to 14 as well as 3bis and 7bis. I also learned the RER passes through Paris though is mostly used to get to the suburbs of Paris. I also learned that every line has a different color. I have also already learned about the Paris metro because I have gone to Paris before and used to be fascinated with trains in general so the Paris metro was included in that group. One thing I learned was that a french man wrote Little Red Riding Hood and was buried in the catacombs. His name was Charles Perault. My favorite part of this project was when I was building the diorama because I got to use clay and paper for a project in French class!!! Also, it is just really fun to play with clay and paper.

Descriptions Using Adjectives in French

The main topic of the Halloween description was to be able to make sentences with adjectives. This includes mostly describing something by the way it looks such as, “Le chat est noir”. We also learned the adjectives that go before the noun called BAGS adjectives. These are beauty, age, goodness, and size. These “BAGS” adjectives go before the noun instead of most adjectives, which come after the noun so you must remember these. When we did our personal descriptions we used the noun etre to describe ourselves which is an irregular  verb so it is not a pattern of the same endings such as “er”. In addition we learned the irregular verb “avoir”. These are useful for describing yourself and what you have because avoir mean to have, and etre means to be. And “I am” is a conjugation of etre. In fact, the conjugations of etre are: je suis, tu es, il/elle/on est, nous sommes, vous etes, and finally ils/elles sont. The conjugations for avoir are: j’ai, tu as, il/elle/on a, nous avons, vous avez, and finally, ils/elles ont. We have also learned the conjugations for “er” verbs which have in their group important verbs such as parler which means to speak. The conjugations are: je parle, tu parles, il/elle/on parle, nous parlons, vous parlez, and finally, ils/elles parlent.

This assignment was to describe items in a Halloween picture in French.
