Humanities Comment on Islam Vocab

I think this poster has some good artwork in it and shows the definition of pilgrimage well. It also has extra information including that Medina used to be called Yathrib. These posters were all describing Islamic vocabulary including but not limited to sura, oasis, and minaret.

French 2nd Trimester Comment

One of my strengths is my speaking and my accent. This is because I hear many people speaking french like my mom all of the time. Another strength is writing sentences. A final strength for me is using vocab in our sentences. A challenge for me is in remembering vocab Another challenge for me is idioms. A goal for me is to be able to remember not to think that you always translate literally in French. Another goal is not forgetting vocab after I learn it. Sometimes once I pass a test on some vocab I forget some of it. Sharyn can help me with my goal of not forgetting vocab. She can help me by maybe giving us other projects that require us to use vocabulary from earlier in the year to see if we remember. My favorite type of activity this year in French was making our models on the monuments in France like when I created the catacombs along with the slideshow project. I would like to do a project like the one we did with the model of the monuments in Paris. We could do something like this with other monuments or something else.  I would like to do this again because it is really fun to make models and still learn about Paris. Maybe we can do this with like a model map of something like the Paris metro map. One other thing I want Sharyn to know is that I have family in France and my grandfather survived the holocaust in France and then came to America.

Here is the link to the recap.

The recap is me saying what is in the doc I am linking below. I think this is my best work, one because I actually planned this recap out. I put the paper up so that I would remember what to say. I also spent a lot of time on the doc. I edited the paper a lot and spent a lot of time on the adjectives. I think this recap also shows the expanse of the adjectives that I know, BAGS or not.

I am also linking to the doc that is the writing of what I said in the recap.

This is what I read in the recap. I spent a lot of time on this trying not to be repetitive with the BAGS adjectives. There were only so many that I could chose from, but I think I made good use of the adjectives I did have. I also think that this shows how I can make sentences using adjectives and nouns. It also shows that I remembered the vocab from the beginning of the year when we studied BAGS adjectives. Finally, this doc shows that I create sentences using vocab that makes sense with my grammar skills including BAGS. This is because as we know BAGS adjectives come before the noun, but other adjectives come after.

Current Events March 2017

Now you may not think of New York as a polluted city. In fact, now it really isn’t. There have been sightings of dolphins in the Hudson River and that must mean something. Though, before around the 70s, New York was pretty bad. You could feel the air and sometimes it would rain ash! This was due to many incineration plants and also the way we produced energy, coal and oil. We were also destroying wildlife by dumping ash into the oceans. Though, what we think of New York now was started when the EPA was founded. As you know Trump does not believe global warming is… real. Also, he is planning budget cuts for the EPA. He is planning to stop laws that protect waterways and also laws on using fossil-fuel to make energy. This is one of the largest contributors to global warming. Trump doing this does not necessarily put New York in the same situation it was back in the 60s, but it will start undoing what the EPA was made for. Hopefully the EPA will win this “battle” against Trump (even if it isn’t likely) so we can keep seeing dolphins in the Hudson River!! Finally this article relates to us because this is our city and it is our job to keep it clean so we can stop global warming which in turn helps the rest of the world. We will like living in this city if it is not polluted better than if it was. Would you like to have ash snowflakes while walking t school? Or would you like to have a chance of dying one day because, you had to breathe?

Art Blog Post Weekly Drawing 2

I chose this picture because I think it shows my best work. It was really hard for me to draw my hand holding my karate belt because it is really hard to make the angle you see your hand at look the same on the page. If you mess that up than it can look really weird. This one also shows my hand drawing skills which are pretty good if you ask me. Also, my karate belt means a lot to me as I have been doing martial arts for 8 years now. The assignment on the sheet was draw your hand holding something that is meaningful to you. Finally, as with the first drawing I posted, I also spent a lot of work after the fact coloring the drawing and making some changes. The link is down below.

News February Toad Sightings

The cave squeaker frog has recently been rediscovered in Zimbabwe. There have not been any wild sightings since 1962 and 2 males and 2 females have been found. Scientists plan to breed the frogs to try to repopulate the species and believe the possible extinction was caused because of illegal exporting. Scientist Mr. Hopkins and his team had been looking for the frog for 8 years! Mr. Hopkins is now 75 and was not present when the first male was found on December 3rd. This is important to us because right now we are seeing many species starting to go extinct because of humans. This shows we have to keep looking for critically endangered species. If something such as salmon were critically endangered I am sure we would look for it. This shows that if we are careful, there could be hope for critically endangered species.

HONY Creative Writing Piece Final Draft

Revision is different from editing because when you revise you can be removing or adding large chunks of your story. You could be adding a character or a completely different scene! Editing is when you are fixing smaller things such as grammar and spelling mistakes.

The revision goal I had for my piece was to explain more about the characters and overall plot of my story. A lot of things were not clear such as the title of the story, “The fire.” Was there a fire? It was not that clear. Also, the friend I was always talking about (who’s name is now Brian) had no name. He was also always talked about in very cryptic ways. I think that I did pretty good with my goal because now everything I say in my story is clear and you can follow the plot much easier than before I started revising.

French les catacombes project

For this project I created a visual and a writing. A link to the writing is here:https://spark.adobe.com/page/tTtbwwiXHHNsf/. My topic was the catacombs of Paris. One goal that I completed was I learned more about the history of Paris all the way back from when the Romans had just built this limestone mine to the ticket price of the catacombs of Paris now. Another goal I completed was learning more about the Renaissance. I do not know much about the Renaissance but this helped me know more about the political problems of Paris during this time period (1300-1600). A final goal I completed was making a diorama while also using clay. I do not usually do projects like this so it was a goal in itself just to make my visual look pretty good. During this project I learned that the Paris metro has line 1 to 14 as well as 3bis and 7bis. I also learned the RER passes through Paris though is mostly used to get to the suburbs of Paris. I also learned that every line has a different color. I have also already learned about the Paris metro because I have gone to Paris before and used to be fascinated with trains in general so the Paris metro was included in that group. One thing I learned was that a french man wrote Little Red Riding Hood and was buried in the catacombs. His name was Charles Perault. My favorite part of this project was when I was building the diorama because I got to use clay and paper for a project in French class!!! Also, it is just really fun to play with clay and paper.

Knight’s Monolouge

Knight Monologue

Scene 7: It is about 12:00 on the wonderful year of 1023 and, in a few minutes I will be right next to the king. It is the final step for me to become a knight. I have waited 14 years for this moment and to follow in my father’s footsteps. My father has already given me a piece of land after this holy orientation. Soon the king will come next to me and wish me to kneel. With that moment I will promise to protect the poor and then the king will touch me with the flat of his sword. This journey to become a knight began all those years ago… when I was 8 years old. Now it feels like someone has put a large weight onto my back. After this orientation I will have so many responsibilities that it will be as if I have to care for a small child. Finally, the king has come I kneel and then I say the final words.

“I promise to be loyal and brave, and to protect the poor and the weak.”

Before the king hits me with his sword, in those five seconds that feel like forever I wish I could say something to the king. Something important and meaningful. I then think about what will happen when I become a knight. I definitely want to work for the king. I don’t want to be some lowly knight who walks around patrolling a small town in the middle of nowhere!

But, sooner than later those five seconds end and I feel the cold metal of his sword touches the side of my face. As if somebody splashed water over my face. At the end of the ceremony it gives me the feeling that it was too easy for all the king have to do is touch me with his sword. I then promise to protect the poor, and boom! You’re a knight. Through those 14 years of work, that grueling training, seems gone. As if my life has changed in such a quick moment though I have not yet realized that this is all a part of my life moving on. I am looking forward to owning the land because I want to give jobs to peasants and help the poor, I did promise to. I will follow the code of chivalry because my father told me from experience to not exploit chivalry because that leads to war. Having to go to war makes the risk of death much higher. Also, sadly the spoils of war may will lead me away from home, away from the place I have been in for all of my life. No matter what type of person I will be brave or shy, strong or weak, I will always be a knight from now on. After this ceremony a new part of my life has begun and I will have to wait and see what the future holds.

To Be Continued…
