My current event is about how people who survived the holocaust are not getting enough money for their needs. This includes, food, water, and medications. If you survived the holocaust you should be getting a sum amount of money, apparently, this sum has not been enough. Recently, the United States of America, which houses one-fifth of all of the holocaust survivors, made a deal with Germany for $314 million dollars, in 2016. This number will rise as each year passes. Hopefully this extra money will help the holocaust survivors because soon there will be none left. This topic is important to me because my grandfather is a holocaust survivor. He had been getting money from the French government but signed it off to his brother because he was in worse shape at the time. Still, my grandfather gets extra money in his social security for being a holocaust survivor. The article specifically talks about holocaust survivors in Hungary which, there are about 10,000 left. Their lives are harder for them because they probably don’t get as much money as most holocaust survivors do. They must rely on more local services for help with getting medication, food, and water. All in all, I think that this is a mostly unknown topic and that people should pay more attention to it because in a few years, this topic may be close to irrelevant.
