Personal Narrative

My favorite rider, Trey Canard, got hurt and he is currently not riding. I was watching the day it happened, and I was so sad! He is my favorite rider and I really like him. I think he hurt his shoulder and his leg. Canard’s bike fell on top of the other rider who was in the crash! The other rider was Jake Weimer.

Weimer punctured his left lung, broke his Adam’s apple, got a tear in his vocal cord, got a concussion, got a large gash in his chin, and he had a broken humerus! I think Weimer got the worst of it.

When it happened I hoped both of them would be ok! I really liked what we were having for dinner, but after the crash I was so sad I didn’t really want it anymore. I was really sad because I was going to my first Supercross race soon, and I had even made a rooting sign for him too. So I had to find a new favorite player until Canard could come back.

I started to like Eli Tomac, and now I am rooting for him. Trey got hurt last season at the indoors, and soon it will be indoors again. My dad and I both think and hope Canard will be back this season again. I even have a Trey Canard shirt! Weimer got more hurt and he will definitely not be back yet.

My dad and I went online to see if Canard was going to come back, but we found nothing. I wrote a letter to him, and I just mailed it. He lives in Oklahoma, so it will probably take a while to get to him. He is the kind of guy who would probably write back. I am so excited to hear back from him! I can not wait to watch the next Supercross season! I went to the Supercross race last year wearing my Trey Canard shirt, even though I knew he would not be riding. But it turned out he was there to watch the race anyway! I really hope he will be back!

This is my personal narrative. I chose this because I feel like I worked really hard on it, because I took a long time on it. A challenge was to write 2 pages on just one sentence we were adding onto. The reason we had to do that is to add more detail to make our writing better. The Learning Habit I focused on for this piece is perseverance, because when I needed to add a whole other page, I felt like giving up but I pushed through it. I am really proud of this piece.

End of Quarter Assessment-Math

I am proud that I was able to find an answer on problem 1 because I thought it would be really hard. I was challenged by the second problem because it is hard to do long division for me. I enjoy doing long division but I find it a little hard. I was surprised that I got a answer for number 1 on my second try. I would like to read over and check my work more. Like on problem 1 I got an answer but I wrote the wrong number in the answer slot.

Big Bang Project

This is a project that we did in science. We had to make working models of The Big Bang. An accuracy of our project is that The Big Bang was random, and when we popped the balloon, it was random. But we could never get it exactly like The Big Bang. An in-accuracy is that our Big Bang made sound, but there is no sound in space, so The Big Bang made no sound whatsoever.

First Weeks of Middle School

Middle School is great so far! I like that we can just we can just walk to our next class when we are ready. It makes me feel super independent and good. A thing I am not enjoying is that our P.E. classes are so short. I like all my classes so far. I really like Humanities. I have always liked social studies. We are watching a video called History of the World of 2 Hours. It is really good. I like music a lot too. I did not think I would like it as much as I do. I am in morning band, and I play the clarinet. I was going to play the trumpet, but then after a while of thinking I decided I wanted to play the clarinet. I liked the way it looked, and how it sounded. My favorite class is art because I like the teacher and I love art. I like lunch in middle school, and I like recess too. I am having so much fun in middle school so far!

Beyond the PawPaw Trees

51DLxrS2iXL._SY344_BO1,204,203,200_One of the books I read this summer, is called Beyond The PawPaw Trees by Palmer Brown. It takes place in a magical land, in a magical past. Some of the places in the land that Anna Lavinia crosses include a train, a dessert and a little village. The main characters are Anna Lavinia,  her father, and her Aunt Sophia Maria. The challenge for Anna Lavinia  in the story is getting to Aunt Sophia Maria’s house. To be able to do this Anna Lavinia needs to cross the magical land between her and her Aunt Sophia Maria. Along the way she finds a key that is very important to her family’s story. Another challenge for Anna Lavinia is trying to find her father, who chases rainbows. Anna Lavinia has not seen her father in a long time, and neither has Anna Lavinia’s mother. On her way to her Aunt’s house she encounters a cliff, and she sees a little walled town below. She thinks her Aunt may live down there.

Something that changed the direction of the story the most was magic. Anna Lavinia was stuck at many points and the magic of the world helped her. An example is when Anna Lavinia was stuck at a cliff and she needed to get down to be able to continue her journey to find her Aunt Sophia Maria, and magic (with a little help of her umbrella) helped her float down safely. Anna Lavinia made some very big decisions and explorations. She explored through the magical land which could be very dangerous. Here are two examples from the book, “She thought she would try something else, because perhaps only the stones acted that way, so she opened her carpet bag and  found the fat woman’s tea cozy and tossed it out beyond the cliff. The tea cozy was so light it would not go dawn at all. A jar of pawpaw jelly went down well, a little slower than the stones.”  Another example is “Then she took a deep breath and jumped of into the air… Gathering her things together, Anna Lavinia commenced walking towards the strange walled town, which seemed to be farther than it seemed from the cliff.” Anna Lavinia’s challenge of getting to her Aunt Sophia Maria, gets resolved and makes it there safely with three new friends, a camel, a parrot, and the “thobby”. But will she ever find her father?

I enjoyed this book a lot. I liked this book because it is very descriptive. For example, when she gets to the little village, the author describes what the village looks like very well. I also liked it because I read another kind of old fashioned book called Pippa Passes (I also recommend it) and it was very good so I tried another old one. The last reason I liked this book was because I tend to like magical realism books because I can relate to the realism part, and the magic give it a fun twist. I think a reader who likes old fashioned books and magical realism will like this book. I think this because as I said before this is a magical realism book, and it is old fashioned. This was a great book. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars! *****

Math Work I Could Have Worked Harder On And I Am Proud Of

image

I wished I worked harder on this piece of work.

I think I could explain this more because I just kind of rushed through it to get it done. I think I would have labeld my work. Especially on problems 2 and 3. I would have labeled what the boxes are on #2. I would also explain how I got my answers. I did what the question asked me but I wish I explained how I did my work. Now that I am looking back at this now, I do not even know what I really did. I wish I worked harder on this piece of work. Now I would use an arry, instead of skip counting to show how I did problem #3 because it would be a lot clearer. On number two I would label what the circles were. I would say they are yo yo’s and the boxes are just groups. I think it would be much clearer.

I am proud of this.

I am proud of this.

I am proud of this because I worked hard on the sentence/description of the first way I solved it. I am very proud of explaining how I did my work. I am proud of this because I usually have a hard time explaining what is in my head and thinking. I am also proud about how I have grown on my skills of the U.S. algorithm. I am very proud of this piece of work.

This is part of the end of the year fourth grade art project. It is a gift to the school because we are going off to the middle school. I got to write the 2014-15 Fourth Grade.

Wiggly Line

In class we were given a drawing of a wiggly line and we had to make a drawing out of it and write a story about that thing we drew. After we had to write a sequel, then make a paragraph to connect them.  We had to edit it for so long!

Chuck’s Adventure

Chuck is a beaver. He has been working very hard on building his new dam. He has been working tirelessly. Chuck has worked dawn through dusk for three days now. All he needs to do is decorate. One day he goes out to buy a wooden couch. When he gets back there is a poster on the small wooden door. It says,

“Swimming Contest for beavers. Winner gets new and improved dam, looser looses their dam. 8:00 am Sunday.”

Tomorrow?!” Chucks says aloud surprised. Chuck thinks about this. If he lost, he would have no no dam and would have to start all over again. Now if he wins, he gets a new luxury dam. Well, now he is done decorating, so his dam is complete. The problem is that it is already 8:00 pm! He has no time to practice at all. He thinks he is a good enough swimmer so he enters the contest.

Chuck wakes up the next morning at 7:30! He only has half an hour to get ready. He rushes to comb his back, brush his teeth, and eat some fresh wood. He runs out the door.

At the local pond there are 10 other contestants. They are all talking about how they think they will win the luxury dam because of their amazing swimming skills.. Chuck listens in.

Soon enough the loud speaker says,

“We have 11 contestants today! They are Gavin! Frank! Harold! Arnold! Billy! Kathy! Matt! Camron! Martha! Chuck! And Francis! 321 baaaa!” No one likes Francis. He is selfish and mean.

About two minutes pass and the horn goes off again! The big voice says,

“Francis is the winner!”

Chuck looks behind him, there is no one. He doesn’t want to cry, but he just can not help it. He bursts out with tears. He worked so hard on his dam!

The speaker says in a mocking voice, “Chuck loooosesss!”

Chuck gets himself together and shouts as loud as he can, “Re-match! I did not get to practice! They put the posters up too late!” There were quiet whispers among the crowd.

“Re-match between Chuck and Francis at 1:00 today!” says the speaker beaver after a short pause.

Chuck goes home and thinks. If he practices he will be too tired. Chuck remembers this saying ; ‘Slow and steady wins the race.’ “Slow and steady wins the race” he mutters repeating it to himself. He will use that as advice.

At the re-match Francis is there. Same as last time, the horn blows. But no! This time Francis doesn’t move! Chuck’s plan is working perfectly. Chuck is going slow and steady. Francis thinks he will be able to catch up. But once he starts moving, Chuck is past the finish line.

“Chuck wins!!” Someone takes Chuck to his new luxury dam. But he still wonders who got his old dam.

It takes three weeks for Chuck to get it the way he wants it. He is so happy to have a perfect dam. He hopes he will have such a fun life in his dam. Three years later he is still living in his amazing dam.

His dam almost takes up the entire river! It is lined with jewels. He has butlers, and maids. Red carpets, and many beds. He had every thing he wanted. The problem is he did not feel satisfied. He feels selfish. He loves his life and wants everyone to experience it. But he can not sell it, he wants everyone to feel it at once, or it would not be fair . He also wanted to live normally in his old dam, his “home.” He misses home and interesting adventures. He decided to make his home a townhouse so all the beavers could live there.

It takes 3 months to complete his idea. When it is finally done he gathers all the towns people. He releases the giant curtain.

“Boff!” the curtain falls. The crowd cheers, knowing what it is for.

8 days later Chuck packs up, says bye, and goes back home. As he is walking home he sees Francis, the beaver he beat in the swimming contest.

“Hello, Francis. I just opened a townhouse.” Chuck says kindly.

“I was just heading over there!” says Francis unusually kindly, but truthful.

 “Have fun! Bye!”

 “Bye!”

Chuck is happy. The town is happy. Perfect ending, right!?

Or is it?
