This is a picture of a math pop quiz. I have not been doing amazing at these. I know how I should practice and I know how I will get better. I will work on simplifying fractions and finding common denominator. I am going to ask Margaret for help during IWP.
This is a page from the take-home test. I did not do as well as I was hoping to, but I think that I did well. This is a page that I got all right. I really like this kind of math and I think that I am good at it. I studied for it and I did as well as I thought I would on this part.
This is my progress report in Xtramath. I am practicing everyday. I think that I am doing well, but I am not very fast at typing. I know all of the answers, and with a little bit more of practice, I will do much better.
In Mandarin this quarter we have been learning about nationalities. This is a set that Xin made for us that has all the countries on it.

This year we went to Ashokan again. One interesting thing we did was blacksmithing. I made a heart trivet. We got to pump the fire and hammer metal. Some people made fire pokers. Even Jen made something?
I learned that canoeing is harder than I thought. You have to balance out the center of gravity and the person in the back has more control. Unfortunately, I was in the back and Dora was in the front. She was not very good at it. We kept almost tipping over but we didn’t die. It was really pretty though.
It was different than last year because we had different activities and they were more fun.
Cry Innocent
Salem, Massachusetts is just as great as last summer. I went with my mom, Kate Borows-Lai, and her mom. We were there for 4 nights and we had a great time. I guess I should explain what Salem is famous for. In 1692, a bunch of little girls became a bit crazy and accused some women in the town of being witches. Of course, we look back on it now and think,”That’s crazy! There’s no such thing as witches!” But, the people of Salem believed them. In the end 19 people were hung and 1 man was pressed to death. 3 died in prison, including 4 year old Dorcas Good, daughter of the later hung, Sarah Good. Later, some of the accusers admitted that they were just having fun and apologized. I find it a really interesting time in history, but I hope that it never happens again. We went to a LOT of museums. My favorite was Cry Innocent: The People vs. Bridget Bishop. It’s a reenactment of Bridget Bishop’s witch trial. They lock Bridget Bishop(the actor) up and give someone the key. I got to hold the key! He asked me if I could be trusted. My favorite place to eat was called The Ugly Mug. It’s a diner and I got “The Elvis.” It’s a waffle with peanut butter cups baked in and it had bacon and whipped cream on top. It also had bananas, but I passed. All together, yum!

On Discovery Day I went to Coney Island and went to the beach. We also rode the rides. It was really fun, even though I was to short to go on the Cyclone. (Did you know that you have to be 54 inches to go on the Cyclone? So upsetting.)
We made websites in d.lab! It was really fun, because I’ve never done anything like it before. I’m not very good at coding, but I think my website turns out really well. I’m proud of how it reflects on me and the things that I like.
In Mandarin, we have been learning about Chinese New Year and some words related to it like 福, which means good fortune or blessing. We went into the 2nd grade class room to talk about calligraphy. 毛笔 means calligraphy brush.
