California Surfing

I like this piece because it is about my first time surfing. That memory is very special to me and I feel like this piece explains why it was so special. I am proud of it because I feel like it is very well written and interesting. Even for me, and I have experienced it in real life.

Here it is.

Mandarin 3rd Quarter Post

This is my quizlet set. You have probably seen this in previous Mandarin posts, but it has  changed a lot since last time. It contains sentences and phrases from units that we have been studying such as, colors, sports, body parts, and fruits and vegetables. I have learned a lot about sentence structure, too. Which will be good for 7th grade because in 7th grade you write huge paragraphs and you learn all about sentence structure. I feel like this quarter has been my most productive Mandarin quarter yet. So take a look.

In this photo we are performing tai chi at the PAC. We worked very hard on it. We have been learning the Yang Basic 8 Step. Xin also put some groovy music in the background for dramatic effect. It was really hard to get the timing right in our practices. In the actual performance we sped up a lot but then we made up for it by going super slow in the end, since we want it to be in sync with the music.

We did another project where everyone in the class wrote descriptions of a random alien and then drew it. Then one by one, people would come up to front of the classroom and read the descriptions of their alien. Everybody else would draw what they heard without the aid of the person’s alien on a post-it. In the end when everyone has gone we put the post-its to their respective alien drawing. Then the person took their own drawing and chose a winner of who got closest to the original drawing.

That is what we have been doing in the 3rd quarter.

Guild Collage

Oliver Fabric 2 Oliver Fabric 1

In art we have created collages that represent something about our guild. I am in the arms and armor guild. In my collage there is a bow, quiver, and a letter with a ribbon on a table. A collage hand is also on the table. In the first photo I am sketching out what my collage will be. In the second photo I am gluing down the quiver to the table. I am proud about what my piece has become because I feel like I really symbolized what my character in the guild is all about.

Style Composition

My style is dubstep. I chose my style because I like listening to dubstep and thought it would be cool to compose a piece in the style. My style has a lot of bass drops, random melodies, and loud fast drumbeats. It has been hard composing my piece because noteflight is not in my opinion, designed to handle dubstep. So I have been doing my best to make my piece sound like a decent dubstep piece with the resources that are available to me.

Who the heck are you so far

I chose to interview my mom because she has had some very interesting experiences in her life, especially about traveling. I have not interviewed her yet but I have a feeling that when I do interview her things will not go as planned. I may have to stray off from the script of questions that I created. The reason I think this will happen is because she gives really long answers for really simple questions. That is one of the reasons that I chose to interview her.

Also, I focused my questions on the places that she lived. Hopefully she will tell me some interesting answers and stories. She will actually probably give me too many answers so I might only choose 30% of the answers that she gives me. But I also added some fun questions to loosen her up a bit if there are some answers that she feels are a little uncomfortable. Like how she and her best friend met.

Here is my questions script. It might be a little long but that is a good thing because she may give some short answers and I don’t want to suddenly stop the interview and say, “Sorry that was my last question, goodbye.”

Anyway here it is.

What are your interests?

What is your most bizarre talent?

Where were you born?

Did you grow up there?

Why did you move all the time?

Were you able to sustain friendships while you were moving all the time?

Did you like moving a lot?

What was your relationship with your siblings like?

What was your favorite place that you lived at over the years?

Have you ever had any scary experiences as a child or young adult?

Do you sometimes resent your dad making you move all the time or do you understand why he had to?
What was your relationship with your siblings like?

I am looking forward to interviewing her. Hopefully she give me some good material to work with for my piece.

Arms and Armour: Total War Medieval 2

Those were two photos of a video game that we have been playing in the Arms and Armour guild. The video game is called Total War: Medieval 2. It is a medieval real time strategy game that is completely accurate in the methods of warfare. You can even watch actual sieges that took place in the medieval era in great detail. It is teaching us a lot about medieval war strategies and history. It is also really fun. We have been competing against each other in 1v1’s and 2v2’s. That is what we have been doing in my Medieval guild.

Arabian Nights’s Revised Story

Revision is rewriting, taking out unnecessary sentences, and changing your story for the better. Some authors write a piece and look back at it in a month and take things out and put new things in that they may not have noticed when they were writing it before. This is because in a month you have new experiences, you become more creative and more intelligent. So it is kind of like you are looking at your piece through a different lens. That is what I believe revision is.

When I was originally writing my piece, I was silly with it. I wasn’t really trying. A week later Julia gave us feedback on our piece and told us to revise it. First I read over it and I knew that I could write way better now then before. Then I revised my piece based on Julia’s feedback. And guess what I did after that? I revised my piece based on my thoughts. This is the product of that.

Cloisters Museum

IMG_8237

When we went to the cloisters museum we saw really cool works of art. One of the coolest things I saw was Jesus hanging on a cross that was real size that was hanging on chains suspended 30 feet in the air. I could not find my artifact that I picked out online, but it was still fun looking for it! I learned a lot about European history and religion.
