In art we have been starting a project called map art. Map art is where you make art out of a map. But the challenging part was that you had to make the piece of art connected to you some how. One of the questions we were asked was why is this piece of art important to you? How dose it relate to you. I decided to make a colage with paper mache. Instead of using news paper I ripped out strips of the map. My idea was to make a tree and the trunk would be coverd with paper mache(map strips). I also wanted to use the C and A train rails because I get on those trains. So I decided to put the train rails going up on the tree trunk to the branches. After I would be done with the base and the tree trunk of the tree I would make the leaves and the branches and hang the important places that would be on the map on the branches. I would cut the places out from the map and hang them with using string. I think the hard part for me was the idea. It was pretty hard coming up with an idea because it had to relate to you somehow. We also had to use the map in any way that is in our project, so I had some truoble thinking about what I should do. But now that I know what I am going to do, it is a lot easier now to work. I thought it really helped to plan out our idea first before we started to do stuff.
