PE

PE is really fun this year, especially since we have 6th Grade Olympics. Olympics is what we do during every class on Tuesday. At the beginning of the year we were split up into four teams. We had to come up with colors and captains. My team came up with black and our captains are Wyatt and Io. The other teams colors are red, white, and blue. We play different games/sports for Olympics and earn points for the games we win. If you do something nice/kind you will get an Olympic Point for your team, and if you do something bad/mean you will lose an Olympic Point for your team. My team is currently in first place, but only by four points. Then it’s the Blue Team, then the Red Team, and then the White Team.

My Thanksgiving Piece

I’m proud that I got to share my Thanksgiving piece at the Thanksgiving assembly. I’m proud because it was a really good piece and only some of the best pieces were shared. I learned that to do your best work you have to give yourself breaks to let your mind think about it. I can continue to do my best work by doing that.

My piece:

Every Thanksgiving I go to my grandparent’s farm in Millbrook, NY.  When I went there last year it was snowing. My cousin (Daniel) and I were watching Thanksgiving football along with my dad and two of my uncles. We were sitting by the fireplace with the smell of the wood burning and the sound of the crackle of the embers were like music to my ears. I could also smell the turkey, mashed potatoes, the stuffing and all the satisfying food we would usually have. I turned around and saw that my brother and my cousin Lexi were sledding in the backyard. It looked like fun! I turned and tapped Daniel. I pointed to the sleds and I said, “Want to go sledding?” I knew his response.

We both bolted through the door and flew up the stairs. We threw on our snow pants, jacket, and snow boots, and then we shot down the stairs to get our hats and gloves. We raced towards the track and my brother and cousin left. We had it all to ourselves, I had never had anything to myself before (at least not since my brother was born.) It gave me this pleasant feeling, thinking of when my brother wasn’t around. He has always been annoying, he always started hitting me randomly for no reason. It was nice to have some peace and quiet for once. Daniel started standing on the sled so he could get on but I pushed the sled forwards. He went flying face first into the snow. I started laughing hysterically and ran over to roll him down towards the frozen lake. I threw a snowball at him and he jumped up and threw snow at me. Eventually my grandma put her head out the back door and yelled, “Dinner time!” We both looked at each other while we dropped our snowballs on the ground. We both bolted through the door and flew up the stairs again so we wouldn’t be late for dinner. We wanted the good stuff! We arrived there right on time for our food and devoured it all while sitting at the table next to each other. It was the best Thanksgiving ever!

Pop Quiz

I’m doing pretty well with pop quizzes.  I’ve been getting 3’s and 2.5’s. One thing that’s hard about them is having time to do all 4. I’m going to improve by practicing more and more. I study by working with my tutor.

Beowulf Annotations

We annotated by:

  1. Circling vocabulary and defining it.
  2. Underlining important parts.
  3. Making a chapter summary.

It’s important to annotate because you can reflect on and remember what happened earlier in the book. One thing that I did well was circle vocabulary and define it. I feel like I could improve on chapter summary’s.

Beowulf Project

For humanities we got into groups and we were assigned a character from a book we are reading, called Beowulf. I was in a group with Wyatt and Liam. We got the character Unferth.  We had to draw him and put put characteristics and quotes.

At first it was a little challenging because some of the people in my group were not very focused, but when we started making the final draft it got more interesting and people got more into it.

When we finished, it looked great! My whole group was proud of it, from the little boil on his neck to the charcoal. It was really fun in the end. I learned that you can get through something even if it’s hard to stay focused.
