“Sure You Can Ask Me A Personal Question” Poem by Marlo Hulnick
I’m a 13- year-old boy who lives in New York City.
Yeah, I like sports and hanging out with friends.
I also like shoes and listening to music.
Yeah, I play basketball a lot.
Yes, I’m Jewish.
No, I don’t always go to Synagogue.
I don’t know if I believe in God.
Yes, I go to a private school.
No, I don’t have a second house.
I live in an apartment with my brother, my mom, and dog.
Yes, I am privileged, and my family has worked for everything that we have.
Yes, my parents are divorced.
No, I don’t have two houses.
Yes, I’m serious.
I live with my mom.
Sometimes I miss my dad.
Correction- I miss the things I could do when he lived with me.
Now he lives in California and I don’t see him a lot.
I’m used to it.
I get anxious a lot.
Some days it’s bad, others not.
I try not to let it show.
I don’t really know what I get anxious about though.
You may think that you can stereotype me but you can not.
I’m just Marlo, in case you forgot.
