My Beowulf Project

In Humanities, we were put in groups and were asked for each group to draw/collage a character from Beowulf. I was in a group with Elijah and Kaya. We were doing Hall Herot. Hall Herot is a hall in Beowulf that is a memorial for a very big character in the book named Scyld Scefing. Elijah, Kaya and I decided to do a collage. I am very proud of the work we did because I think it looks really neat. I also think that we gave ourselves a little bit of a challenge by doing collage.  I found it a little bit challenging because since we decided to take our project a step farther, it also made our project more challenging, because it really hard to make a collage look neat. I learned that it is better to give yourself a challenge since I ended up being really proud of my project.

The Special Visitor

This is the short story I wrote in writing class. Hope you like it!

I was sitting on my bed, looking out the window, watching dogs play in the dog park. There is a little Pomeranian chasing a bulldog. I watch as they played, running around and jumping  up and down. My bedroom spread out around me. My walls were painted a light shade of blue and purple. My bed is in the corner of the room, right beside the windowsill. My desk is right next to my bed. My desk was cluttered with folders and lip balms. Above my desk, there are 3 shelves. Pictures and awards sit on the shelves. “They look so lonely up there,” I thought. Then, what I had been waiting for. The doorbell rang.

I knew who it was. I went rushing to the door eager to get to the door quicker than my sister. I ran as if my life depended on it. This was the day that Sarah was going to babysit us. I was wearing my favorite red bracelet and my Makos t-shirt. On my legs, I wore my favorite pink leggings. I opened to door and hugged her. I just loved that feeling. The feeling of having the whole day ahead of me, with my favorite person ever. I looked up and her eyes stretched on her face. Her cheeks slowly turned a bright shade of pink. She had a goofy smile on her face. I recognized this facial expression. This was the face that she made when she was excited. My mind went racing. My mind overflowed with ideas about what we should do today. Sarah was one step ahead of me. “Lets go to sprinkles,” she said.

Our Social Studies Project

Today, in Social Studies we did a really interesting project where we got a bunch of cards saying lots of different things that happened in the history of the world and then we were asked to put all of the cards in chronological order starting from the start of time. When my group started placing our cards, we had a little bit of confusion about what came first: When the moon hit earth, or the cambrian explosion. We decided to put when the moon hit earth first because when the moon hit earth, the earth was full of lava.. When me and my group were putting these events in chronological order, the whole history of the world really came together. Before, I thought a bunch of things happened and did not really understand why, or the transition into something big that happened. Arguing with my group about what came next actually helped me learn more about the history of the world.
