My Personal Muir Web
One of my favorite projects was creating my Personal Muir Web. In this project, we created a web of the things we use in daily life. I included what I usually eat, I included things I use daily like soap and others. I think this is important to me because I realized how much I consume. I wasn’t aware of how much I consume, and my web was just a very small part of what I actually consume in a day. I am very proud of how this web turned out, and I learned a lot from it.
Class Muir Web
Early in the year in science class we created Muir Webs for random objects in our classroom. My group was Ben, Oliver and Olivia B and the object we chose was an IPad. I really enjoyed getting to look into every aspect of an IPad because I wasn’t aware of everything that went into it. Like for example I learned how even something like coal goes into an IPad. I think so far this is my favorite project we have done this year.
My Body System Bubble Map
This is my body system bubble map. While making this map I realized how much the systems connect. When I first saw this I was really worried and I didn’t think I would know what to do but then I realized all the ways the systems connect. Something else I started to do was I made a lot of little clouds and connected it to things out side of the systems. I really liked this activity.
Structure Fits Function – The Small Intestine
Did you ever wonder what happens inside the digestive system or where your food goes after you swallow it? Part of the process of the food digesting is the small intestine. By the time, the food gets to the small intestine it is broken down into almost a liquid. But what is the small intestine? That’s what I’m going to tell you today!
- The Small Intestine has a rough surface (villi) so the food will be absorbed by it into the body. It isn’t stored, but it is absorbed.
- It is 15-30 ft long, to make sure the maximum the number of nutrients absorbed from the food.
- Because it is so long, the body coils it up on itself.
- So it doesn’t uncoil, the Small Intestine is surrounded by the Large Intestine.
- It also has a thick muscle layer surrounding it to increase the surface area.
All of that helps the Small Intestine do its function!
How healthy is the 6th Grade during Lunch?
Before
What I noticed:
I noticed that the amount of vegetables we ate went down, which is interesting because we already were not eating enough, and then it went down. I think that is because if we are trying to eat more of other foods, something else must of went down. Grain pretty much staid the same, but we ate more fruits. Dairy went up, and protein went down.
Spaceship Earth
The project I am working on here is a project called Space Ship Earth. Each member of our class designed a ship. First we could just do what ever we wanted, as long as we had places to sleep, eat and use the bathroom. Mine has seven bedrooms, three bathrooms and two kitchens. We have everything you need to eat sleep, eat and have fun. But there was a catch. We will be on the ship for twenty years, and we can not bring twenty years worth of anything. First we had to learn how to create oxygen and get rid of the Carbon D. We decided to make a green house. See trees take Carbon D. and turn it into Oxygen. As you can see, Each tree represents 100,000 trees. Studies show that one tree gives are for two animals. So we will have plenty of air. Next we had to find a way to reuse solid waste. Most can be fed to animals and fertilize. All solid waste is pumped into a tube with goes strait into a solid waste bucket. That gets pumped into the animal pen or garden. Each plant and animal represents 300. We definitely have enough. Now not all things can be eaten or fertilized. We will melt plastic and metal and reuse it. Stones can be placed as bridges. The most complicated machine is the water. This is how it works. There are two glass containers. One is inside another. On top of it a very big plastic wrap. There is a lot of ice cubes on top of it that are kept cold by huge freezers. The ice cubes are in the middle so that there is a drop in the middle. Liquid waste is pumped in two the outside container. The water evaporates, filtering it while it happens. It goes from liquid to gas back to liquid. It goes into gas when it evaporates. Only water can evaporate, not dirt.It turns back into liquid when it hits the plastic wrap. It slides down to the middle and drops into the middle container. That water gets pumped into all the places the house needs it. To speed up the process of evaporation there is huge heat lamps to make it evaporate quickly. The ice makes it turn into a liquid because of the temperature difference. You can also get to the middle container to get water by crossing the stone bridge. That is my space ship!
My Atom
This is my atom. The ball in the middle in the atom’s center. That is where the hydrogen is. There is a ring that goes around it.The ring is supposed to have a gap in it. The energy in the ring goes around and then skips over one spot. The spot changes.
