Photoshopping this image of Stella was a very interesting process for me and I think I learned a lot about design. The original image was Stella, wearing sunglasses at night standing with her leg over a railing. I masked out the railing and changed it to red, I highlighted her sunglasses so the sunglass rims were much bigger than usual, and made them almost look animated by changing the color to green. I also moved Stella to space, where I added in a planet for the railing to sit on and a drop shadow so it helped Stella look more realistic. I also have a man in a pool floaty flying behind her. One important element of design I included was contrast. I use contrast in many different ways in my piece, but an example is the contrast of the railing and Stella on it. I didn’t change Stella, so the depth and shadows on her body are still there, but all of that I took out in the railing, making it all one color. That way you can see the contrast between the more realistic Stella and the animated railing. I also think I used emphasis in this piece because I think I highlighted the sunglasses from the rest of Stella’s face by not only making the color much brighter but by enlarging them. I also believe I demonstrated pattern by having the flying man behind Stella repeated, making a pattern. I also think that I used proportion by making the planet much smaller than it would be in reality, so Stella stood out and was the focus of attention. Finally, I think I demonstrated harmony because all the pieces come together as a fun picture of Stella in space.
I would like to name this work of art Tilda’s Eye. I created this work of art by using different drawing techniques. We started with lighter pencils, and then we worked our way up to darker pencils. We took pictures of our eye and then drew it with those pencils. Some on the things I learned while creating it was I learned how to create depth and make the eye look realistic and stand out. My favorite part of it was the top of my pupil. I had a lot of trouble trying to make it darker, and I think I did it well. If I could change anything, it would be my veins. I have a lot of veins in my eye, but I only included some of them, making them stand out and look unnatural. I wish I included all of them so it looked more normal. While making it I was surprised how hard it was for there to be depth.
Explain to me the technique you are using right now:
At the moment the technique I’m using is hatching. Using any type of pencil, you draw thin straight lines from one end of the area you are trying to cover, to the other. The lines you draw go right next to each other to fill the space. There are also techniques like this one, for example, cross-hatching, where you start out using regular hatching to cover an area, then do it again in the same spot, just from another direction.
This year my favorite project was the illuminated letter. I liked how creative we could be even though we had some perimeters. I think something that I liked that might just concern me is that I really liked painting.

This is what I thought was my finished map project. Then we had critiques and the comments that stood out the most were that it looks unfinished and they can’t tell what the black thing is. It is a ruler, and I think I am going to make it look more like that. I might make the desk seem complete with other things that might be on a desk. I am really proud of it because I think it really is a good way to highlight my project. I think my project represents my view of New York because coffee is everywhere.

In class we have been working on a project were we have to transform a map. My map project originally was to cover a mug in map, write N.Y.C. in coffee logos, and then draw monuments on the mug too. Right now I have covered the mug in the map, and made some of the logos. In class we did criticism and someone said to put famous restaurants on the map. I decided to instead of that put my favorite places to eat instead of drawing monuments. I think this will help show my perspective of N.Y.C.
This is my Geometric Pattern. Something I like about it is the pattern itself. I think it works well because it really easily repeats but still has a lot of shapes. Something I wish I could change was the quality of my coloring. I think it is a little messy and can be neater.
This is my illuminated letter. Something I like about it is the letter itself. I like the polka-dots because it took a lot of work to make it because I had to make it line up. Something I wish I could change is the hat I drew on my T. I like it but the sky covered one of the pom-poms.
This is my Fabric Collage. I like it because it shows that I am in the Art Guild very well. It also shows my master work in my guild, which is Bookmaking. I think something I wish I could change on this piece is it shows a lot about my guild, but not that much about my character. My character is from Italy, so I showed it from the colors of the paint, but I think I could show more. Overall I am really proud of it.
