What I Learned This Year
This year in 6th grade, we read a book called Beowulf. It is about a hero who comes to help fight an evil monster who is bothering the king, Hrothgar. Soon we started making Beowulf projects. There are a bunch of different characters and places in Beowulf. My project is drawing Beowulf. We are learning about the medieval times so we also learned about hierarchies. There is a chart that shows the rank of the people in a town in the medieval times, it’s called a Feudal Chart. Feudalism means, the political system that flourished in Europe from the 11th-15th centuries. It was a hierarchical system that divided people by rank. We learned that God is the highest rank, then the Monarchs, Nobles (Lords and Ladies) and Knights. Anyone under the Knights are not royal, but anyone from the Knights and up are royal. Next are the Freeman/woman, Peasants and Serfs. Serfs are the poorest of them all they are at the very bottom of the Feudal Chart.
