Trimester 3 in 1000 Photos

Trimester 3 in 1,000 Photos

I am Ben Brinson, and I am ecstatic to embark on my Senior Project. Upon first hearing about the Senior Project when I was in 9th grade, I imagined that I would do something that would have to do with soccer, my biggest passion. Over the course of my high school career, I have found a new passion: Photography. Through the various Photography classes that I have taken over the course of the 4 years, I have realized how much I enjoy taking and developing photography. In my various photography classes, I have learned how to capture emotions within a photograph. I have learned how to develop photos in the dark room. I have learned how photography can be used as a form of activism, documentation as well as art. I have learned how to alter the exposure time of a photo to show something that is in motion. When I take a photo I feel as if I am immortalizing that moment in time, that’s what I want my Senior Project to be. I want it to immortalize my third trimester.

The inspiration for this project came from an assignment that we had last trimester. We were tasked with creating a book for our final project. I chose to document a ski trip with my friends for the subject of the book. As I was looking back at my book and looking back at my photos I remember all of the emotions that I felt in the moments that the photos are from. For my Senior Project, I want my new book to have the same effect when I look back at it, I want to remember all of the emotions that I felt when I took the photos.

My senior project is a creative project about documenting all that’s happening in my life during my spring trimester.

I want to have something that I can look back on to recall my final trimester at LREI. I will create a Photobook encapsulating the spring. I want to capture all of the emotions that were involved in this final trimester of high school. I want to capture all of my friends committing to college, doing their senior projects, and having fun. I want to capture my soccer team’s spring season and all of the emotions that go with that.  I also want to capture how my house changes throughout the spring season as I prepare for graduation and college.

Because my project is focused on all of the events of the spring trimester, I am always working on it. I will be taking pictures everywhere I go. But, specifically, I am going to be capturing a couple of things consistently, and those things will be chapters within my book. At the beginning of each chapter, I will have a page of the portraits of all of the people that are involved in that chapter. One of those chapters will be about my friends and me spending time with them. In this chapter, I will try to capture them working on their projects, as well as capturing what we are doing in our downtime. For my portrait page, I will take a picture of all of my friends and place their pictures on the first page of that chapter. The next chapter that I will have in my book is about my soccer season. I will capture moments at soccer practice, soccer games, and soccer tournaments. This chapter will include an image of my soccer cleats at the beginning of my season versus my cleats at the end of the season, just to track the wear and tear that the season has on them. I will get a portrait of all of my teammates and my coach to place on the first page of this chapter. The next chapter that I am going to have is a chapter focusing on my house and the people that live in it. For this one, I will have my parents and sister on my portrait page. I am going to try and capture what happens every day in my house. Within this chapter, I want to focus on my backyard and how that changes over time. Much like the focus piece on my cleats, I want to see how the backyard looks at the beginning of the spring versus at the end of spring. The next chapter that I want to have is one on the cityscapes. I want to capture NYC. I am really interested in taking a look at the same spots during the day versus at night. I think that could be really interesting. I also want to capture the skyline at sunset.  This chapter will also feature some of my friends. As well as this book project I will also be taking the math Senior Seminar.
