Jemma Fox – Blog Post #2

I think my project has gone well so far. There is nothing that has really gone off track or anything like that. I have struggled a bit with self motivation, but I have gotten most, if not all of my work done on time. Through my work I have found myself learning a lot about the industry, as well as about gender equity in the workplace, and in music. Learning from influential women, who are working to make positive change is very inspiring.
A main question that I have discovered is, “how can we make practical changes in the numbers, regarding the representation of women in the music industry?” I have been doing a lot of research on the current state and statistics regarding the underrepresentation of women in the industry. I have seen a lot of statistics which show that there has been little to no improvement in the numbers over the last decade. Despite the implementation of many initiatives which are meant to promote equity in the industry, things have barely changed. The work that Live Nation Women is doing is incredibly crucial, as we have to begin small and eventually there will be larger systemic changes, but is there any way that we can speed the process to equality?
I think that my goals have remained moderately the same. I don’t really have the one “end goal” I am working to, so I don’t have a real material end goal. But I would like to become more involved in the actual Live Nation Women initiatives. I am doing a lot of work on the outside like reading articles and making presentations and gathering research, but I am not doing a lot of specific projects for the organization. I am loving what I am doing right now but I am hoping I can become more involved directly with some of the projects.
I think I am happy with my project thus far. I have learned a lot, both in terms of the research I have done, putting together information into comprehensible formats, and about working independently. It has been a really rewarding opportunity to work with trailblazing women, and learn about such an important topic. I think that the process itself has been a real learning experience, as well as the actual substance of the project. I am very excited to continue for the second half, and to continue my work.
